    Re: I want to switch

Under what criteria did you search?

Postcode + max on the other 2 questions.

Sorry if I seem to of posted replies only to your posts but you seem to have posted in almost every thread here.

    Re: I want to switch

Under what criteria did you search? I've had tests run with a random sample of nationwide postcode areas for all criteria and in well over 90% of cases (The figures haven't been fully collated yet). Tiscali comes up on top.

Two posts by a new user and both in reply to posts by myself criticising MS? Not very constructive replies either!
Fan or troll...... Which is it?

MoneySupermarket, by it's very admittance that it accepts financial rewards from the service providers that it reviews, cannot be seen to be independent. The very fact that Tiscali appear top of every comparison table that they feature in despite them being the most complained about broadband ISP ever belies suspicion that the consumer is definitely not the centre of interest at this site..

By the very definition of being independant if Money Supermarket didnt sort the results by price as they currently do, would'nt this be seen as not being impartial?

Incidently a search for my given postcode does not yield Tiscali as the number 1 result.

"I'll have to be honest I'm a little bit disheartened by what you've said because I was under the impression we both shared the same views."

We may both share similar views but there is one huge difference in the way that we assimilate and present those views.
I am entirely non dependent on income sources from the people that I have experience of, hold views on and give advice about. In fact, it actually costs me a small ammount to do so. MoneySupermarket obviously has a vested interest in keeping their biggest financiers happy.
I can be seen to be totally independent and my views and advice will change as the circumstances provided by and surrounding providers change.

I would advise all users of this site not to use the provided (Loaded) links.
I would also advise that users who may be interested in a company or product visit the dedicated UK broadband consumer sites such as ISPReview, The-Scream and ADSLGuide to gain an impartial insight nto the circumstances surrounding that product or company.

    Hi Zer02004

Thanks for responding. I'll have to be honest I'm a little bit disheartened by what you've said because I was under the impression we both shared the same views.

We've been offering product comparison to financial intermediaries since 1989 and online product comparison to consumers since 1999. Our aim has always been to help people find a better deal.

Our service is free to use, we don't charge consumers to use it, but in order for us to build and maintain the service and keep adding new tools and functionality we earn a commission from ISP's for any business we introduce.

The best way to describe what we do is we arm the consumer with the knowledge they need to make a better purchasing decision - we estimate that well over 3 million people in the UK have benefited from using our site and found a better deal.

Users buy products via links from our site because they are more informed about the market. We do not omit providers because they haven't got a deal with us, but before we can put them on our site we need to ask permission to do so first. In some cases providers do not want to be listed or compared.

Above all else impartiality is crucial for us because if we weren't then users would not feel confident that what they were seeing was an accurate representation of the best deals in the market and nor would the ISP's trust working with us either.

We welcome debate around the issue, if I made a mistake about ADSLGuide in terms of they actually don't earn any revenue from ISP's then I am sorry I apologise and I was wrong, but please feel free to contact Sebastian Lathinen and ask him to contact me as I would like to speak to them about a number of issues. (jason.lloyd AT moneysupermarket.com)

Thanks for your time and consideration.

    Kind Regards

    Jason Lloyd

    Re: I want to switch

If ISPs finance you, it puts this site in the position of non impartiality therefore, it cannot be trusted by users. I shall be directing Sebastian Lahtinen (ADSLG) to this thread and seeing what he has to say about these claims.
USwith etc have just been hauled over the coals for this very thing.

    Re: I want to switch

    Hello Zer02004 again

If you want me to explain in more detail how we've put the tables together then please contact me direct:

    jason.lloyd AT moneysupermarket.com

The channel is still very much a work in progress and as you can imagine it's not perfect, simply because the broadband industry is not a perfect environment for comparison as there are too many variations so we've tried to fit apples and oranges alongside each other so at least users can get some kind of basic comparison.

In relation to unlimited deals I agree there needs to be transparency but it's not up to us to force ISP's to tell people about fair use caps and traffic shaping, we can advise them that a fair use policy exists but we can't actually say what the cap is if that makes sense?

UK ISP's use us as an affiliate so in effect it's the other way around - we work in partnership, if you go into the About Us section of the site it explains clearly how our site works and that we are paid a fee for introducing new customers to our partners. I think you'll find that all the other broadband comparison sites and the likes of ADSL guide also derive revenue from introducing business to ISP's so it's not as if it's something new it's pretty uniform across all sites.

    Cheers

    Jason Lloyd

    Re: I want to switch

The best buy tables are very misleading. Tiscali, Toucan, Pipex etc do not supply unlimited broadband; at least not in the sense that the average English speaking human being understands.
I have to ask, are any UK ISPs affiliates of Money Supermarket? If so, are these interests declared? Are there any up to date and detailed lists available?

    Re: I want to switch

Use the services of dedicated consumer broadband sites such as ISPReview and ADSLGuide before deciding on a new provider. A little time spent on doing your homework now may pay handsomely in no time at all. It may also save a lot of future misery.

    Re: I want to switch

The first port of call should be to contact AOL and say you intend to switch. Most broadband providers have what's known as a cancellation team - their job is to prevent you from switching by offering a better deal to stay. If they don't offer you a good enough deal to stay then compare the market to find a better deal.

Our best buy tables can give you a snap shot of the best deals on the market right now but make sure you know roughly what it is you want before you make the switch.

Talk Talk is still a great offer but the wait and poor customer service issues are putting many people off. If you have Sky Digital TV the Sky Broadband deal at the moment is almost irresistable. BT Total Broadband is by far the most comprehensive offering on the market at the moment and is also worth checking out.

Also there's a few other good packages from lesser known players - Madasafish and EFH Broadband are offering some great deals at the moment too.

Alternatively just sit tight and wait for the market to launch some more new products, it's a consumer's market at the moment and prices are falling every week so you're bound to find a better deal in the current climate.

    I want to switch

I'm with AOL but I want to switch. I've been happy with my service but it seems there's loads of cheaper offers now. Can anyone recommend any deals? I thought about TalkTalk but the other forum thread seems to suggest there's tons of problems with their service.
