    Is Madasafish for me ?

Can someone please help / advise. Currently the only way I access the internet is via dialup pay-as-you-go via virgin and my phone is with BT. My phone bill as you can imagine is very expensive -usually £150 a quarter.I am on a BT  TOGETHER option 1 (not the broadband package-just phone) +line rental is £31.06 alone, with VAT @£17.87 and the rest is the phone (hope this is clear).

For the past few weeks I have been reading as much as I can regarding broadband and cannot decide which ones to pick

I am put off  Tiscali  and and virgin media  (2 for £20) because of poor customer service and I feel BT (BT  total broadband option 1) but is this a good offer ? even though they have already had enough money of me.

Madasafish  (MAX Broadband Talk free ) appeal because of the good customer service, and it fits my requirements which are...

I want free evening and weekend calls and Download capacity- 2MBPS- as I only surf the net I don't download games, music or video only the occasional programs for my laptop, so don't need masses I did a test and don't think I can get a great speed anyway - postcode DE75 7NU.

I also want to pay about £25 -£30 a month including line rental

My concerns are I get confused  and bogged down by the jargon and on another website someone had commented you should always keep your line rental with BT, and i am confused by do I have to have cable, or does it somehow just go down my phone line (which I think I prefer), basically I am to confused now to pick one can someone please help in layman's terms ?

    Thanks stephanie.

Re: Is Madasafish for me ?

Great news, just got your reply,

You pay in advance for your services like you do with mobiles etc.

Don't worry i'm sure you'll enjoy the experience that i am having with MAAF & now its saving me money into the bargain aswell. When i was with BT my phone bill alone used to £30 a month, now my bills are around the same and i now have broadband also. My last invoice for April was a total of £26.46, thats line rental, calls & broadband at a good rate for the next 12 months.

Don't forget the free calls are only to 01 + 02 numbers in the uk none geographic are all chargable calls

If you need any more help don't hesitate to ask.

    Regards tony t

Thanks Samara, I feel more comfortable about switching knowing their is a real person there who is actually showing a interest- fingers crossed it goes smoothly on May4th/Mat 5th !!. Also as I am new to this do I get instructions when the router is delivered ? -I did read your explaination of 8MG - but like I say it is all new to me- and to be honest I don't even know what a router is !!!!

Re: Is Madasafish for me ?

    Hi Stephanie,

Don't worry, it's all really easy! Here is what will happen after you've placed your order:

    1. You'll receive a welcome email straight away to confirm your order and a hardcopy welcome pack will follow in the post.

    2. When we know the date that your service will go live we will email you that information along with your connection information. The connection information will include your broadband username and password. Your broadband username will end in @go-broadband.com. Although it looks like an email address, it's purely for the purpose of connecting to the Internet.

    3. A day or two prior to when your service is expected to go live you should receive a router from us. If you've opted for the free router, this will be the Voyager 210. The Voyager 210 has an Ethernet and a USB connection. If you've got an available Ethernet port on your computer I would recommend using this over the USB port. The Ethernet port looks kind of like a telephone port, just a little bigger.

The router will arrive with a CD that has the program on it which will make it so that your computer can use the USB connection. If you're going to use the Ethernet cable as your means of connection you do not need to run this software.

If you're using the USB cable to connect go ahead and run the software and it will prompt you entirely through set up.

If you're using the Ethernet port to connect, simply connect the Ethernet port from the router to your computer (make sure that the router is also connected to a power supply and your master telephone socket). The in your web browser menu bar type in the address: http://192.168.1.1 . You'll then be prompted to enter the broadband username and password that we sent you on email.

Just please make sure that you have 1 microfilter fitted to every phone socket that is in use. 2 microfilters will arrive with your router.

Please also make sure that you have the router located off your master phone socket and that you aren't using a long telephone extension cable in conjunction with the router.

And the first 10 days we're testing your line just to see what the max stable rate is, your speeds may fluctuate during that time but that's normal.

That's really about all there is to it!

Of course I check this forum every weekday so if you have any further questions please do not hesitate to post again.

    Kind regards,

    Samara

    Hi Tony,

Not good news I'm afraid !!. Woke up friday morning- no dial tone on the phone and it is now tuesday and still have no dial tone !! so no broadband either (using one at work). Madasafish have been very helpful in trying to sort out the problem. BT have claimed once to have fixed the problem but to no avail. As we have mobiles with pay-as-you-go with emergency credit only it has been a nightmare accessing a phone and we have had to rely on out neighbours kindness, plus we have a 9 month old baby so need the phone.
