I am new to all this and need some expert advice, Broadband and Phone

I have just recently bought myself a PC, I have been in my property for two years, never had a phone line and just arranged to set one up with BT as I have been informed I have to go BT to get the line to be able to get broadband.

I understand that once the line is in I can stay with BT or contact another Broadband supplier as long as within my 14 day calling off period.

I am looking for Broadband service that will allow me to download some music/films, book Holidays/shopping etc and manage my day to day stuff i.e email, web email. With regards to the phone, it would be handy to have a phone for emergencies and landline calls

What shall I do? stick with BT or change it within the 14days???

    Hi Soffmix,

Although BT are a popular Broadband provider they do not represent good value for money. Some of the smaller ISP's have become very popular with our customers for price and service provided. Here is a small breakdown of some of these ISP's:

Madasafish - £11.99 for the 1st six months then £17.99 thereafter. Up to 8Mb speeds with 5Gb monthly usage allowance. If you call our team at moneysupermarket.com on 0845 630 1860 then you will also be able to get a free wireless router. Also you will get free evening and weekend calls.

Be* - If this is available in your area they offer speeds up to 24Mb and monthly usage of 4Gb. This also comes with a free wireless router, use our comparison tool to see if this is available in your area.

Direct Save Telecom(DST) - If you are interested in free calls anytime then DST can offer up to 8Mb speeds with an unlimited monthly usage allowance. There is a £40 set up charge but this will give you a one month rolling contract so you won't be tied in for 12 months. The full package costs £26.90 but this includes line rental, free calls and top of the range broadband.

If you would like a chat in order to discuss any of these products or any other ISP please feel free to give me a call 0845 630 1860.

    Hi Stephan,

Thank you very much for your help.

I forgot to tell you where I live, its actually Stone in Kent, a DA2 6 post-code.

With regards to DST I have been reading some bad reviews on here, I dont know whether thats a good or bad thing as a colleague has pointed out that these reviews are generally just people who want to complain not people who are shouting about a good product

BE* came top search on your web-site when I put in my post-code. But maybe a little more than I need? 24mb speed?

I was considering Talk Talk but heard lots of bad things on service and connection???

Madasafish, never heard of these, but sound very good, would you recommend an ISP that is not so well heard of? and how comes you will give me a free router if I go with them???

Sorry for all the questions, you are very helpful and I just want to make sure I am making the right decisions.

I have taken a note of your number as well just incase

    Cheers

    Steve

Re: I am new to all this and need some expert advice, Broadband and Phone

    Hi Soffmix,

The Be* offer is quite competitive at £14/month. At the moment they have a free connection offer which lasts till the end of the month. The speed that you will recieve depends on your line strength and distance from the exchange. 24Mb is quite a lot but you are more likely to recieve speeds of around 5Mb - 8Mb. There is a 4Gb monthly allowance but for heavy users an extra 5Gb bundle is available to purchase for £5.

DST currently have 18 reviews on our website with most of them being very positive. Most negative reviews can be made by disgruntled customers who, for whatever reason were unable to obtain DST's services in which case will mark them at 1/10 for everything without having fully experiencing DST's services.

We currently have a deal in place with Madasafish where we can give moneysupermarket.com customers a free wireless router. This has made them a very popular choice and some of their reviews reflect the service they provide. Nowadays a lot of people are switching to the smaller ISP's as the larger companies i.e. Talk Talk, AOL etc have had many problems with many unhappy customers leaving bad reviews.

    I hope this helps,

    Stefan

    Hi Stephan,

Thanks for your reviews, they are very good and some good advice might I add.

Its sounds like Madasfish have a decent offer through yourself which is rather appealing,

The guy is coming out in the next two weeks to update my tele line and get me active. I will then need to make some quick decisions regarding my contract as I will only have 14days I am guessing from when I go live?

I will probably call nearer the time to see if there are any changes or updates and to confirm with you the best packages,

Thanks once again for your help and have a nice long weekend.

    Hi Soffmix

All I will advise is don't sign up Orange. They are one of the worst ISP's. They are no help and when contacting them you always seem to get through to their India call Centre.
