I have a Sony Ericsson W710i phone on Vodafone for which I need to unlock as I want to change to 02. Where can I find the code to unlock it for free?

I know that I need the IMEI for my handset which I have obtained.

Do you have solid grounds for believing you can do it free? If you do there will be lots of small dealers losing a good source of income. Have a look on ebay if you know what you're doing and you can sometimes buy something for a few pounds to do it or do it through cyber space. Remember you must be absolutely certain that 'whoever' gets the right model number and then doesn't mess it up.

If you are out of contract, then you should be able to get the unlock code for free from Vodafone. If you are in contract, then you should not try to do this. eBay and a number of others offer the process, but I would regard these with GREAT suspicion as I have had a couple of occasions where some of my younger engineers have ended up 'bricking' their 'phones from scammers. Quite frankly I would pay the £10 or £15 to get the code and have done with it.
