Do you have a partner who works (how many hours) and do you rent or own?

Re: how to make extra money

Hi, there are a load of survey sites out there. Likewise mystery shopping can be a good bet. I appreciate you have to leave the house to do this, but if you can combine it with your regular shops, then it need be little inconvenience and could be a great way to get a little money for the unexpected costs!

I may get told off for doing this, but in fairness I can't see a forum about this on money supermarket, so I'm hoping they'll forgive me!!

Money saving expert forums (sorry!!!) have an extensive section on surveys and mystery shopping, including views on which companies pay out etc. They may be your best bet.

Moneysupermarket people - sorry - this doesn't seem to be covered on your site so I really hope you don't mind me pointing alishasmum to the best source of information I knew.

YOUGOV pay per survey, although it can vary between 25p and £1, they also do on line forums that pay varying sums, I got £25 last week for one.

My wife also started doing AVON, not sure what the area you are in is like, she gets 25% of any orders over £75

She also got conned last year by those 'work from home' schemes you see in papers where you send £x to a PO box - I didnt know she had done it till about 3 weeks later when she admitted sending the money

Re: how to make extra money

the obvious one (seeing as you have children ) is .... EBAY :D

you would be surprised how much you can make. - i made a packet just by auctioning off my old DVD's . make sure you cover the postage though ;0)

you can auction anything off there...

also - have you any hidden skills like graphic design or web development? i know that there are posts out there on the freelance sites that look for people to write content / make websites and provide graphics.

why not try tupperware parties or things like that?

    good luck.

Would agree with George about Ebay BUT be aware that HMRC could class it as earnings if you start selling large amounts of stuff or start making large amounts of money and decide you owe them tax or if your on certain benefits it may impact them....

Thanks for that advice on mystery shoppers - checked out that other site - and even found a recommendation for a job site called www.myparttimejob.co.uk that has a number of mystery shopping jobs - and a lot of other part time opportunities that I'd never even thought of like Merchandisers and Distributors.
