well home ownership is more practical and much more important. 29 is still too young to invest for a home that you can call your own.

I agree. Do you feel there needs to be a dramatic change in the housing market to accommodate this new generation?

I think most people would prefer home ownership over renting, the problem is that due to our economic woes the number of people who have no option but to rent is ever increasing. Of these, some will continue to save (possibly continuing to live with Mum and Dad) in case the economy turns around again, and some will take a scorched earth approach and spend any spare cash they have.

yes this is right but my girlfriend is working at a care home at the minute and it is very eye opening,

how these people have worked hard all there lifes to pay there homes off and have to sell there homes to pay for there care. then they feel really bad cos they can pass any thing on to the children.

i am now 29 years old and i am thinking it is to late for me to buy a home i would be better off renting the rest of my life and saving

If for no other reason, home ownership means that after the mortgage has been paid, you have a rent free property for the rest of your life!

Provided, of course, that you haven't used the equity by living above your means for years and years.

    Hardly rocket science.

    Home Ownership. Important? Or not?

I read an article the other day and was just curious to find out how many people in this day and age think ownership of a home is as important as it was in the past and how your views on how the housing market may change in the next few years?

According to numerous "professionals" we are looking at new generation of young people who would rather rent instead of buying. In a survey of 8,000 people aged between 20 and 45, only 5% of those described as "Generation Rent" (those with no realistic prospect of getting on the housing ladder) are making spending sacrifices to save towards their first home. The remaining 95% have no spare cash, no interest in saving or are trying but failing to save.

If getting on the property ladder is important to you then why is this so?

Also what schemes have you tried?

    What are your thoughts?
