    Re: Home Insurance - Paragon

If I was to sell you a parachute from a bargain bucket in the parachute shop would you want it or would you want to pay more and know the quality of the parachute you are getting.

It's not the company you need to worry about (in most cases) its the cost and therefore the quality and features of the policy.

**EDIT** just seen I have replied to the OP from 2008...the basic opinion is still very valid though

    Re: Home Insurance - Paragon

I would like to warn anyone using this site for quotes.

I asked for home insurance and was given list of quotes.I clicked to be taken to one of the quotes web sites.Homeinsureres.co.uk. I filled in details to get policy details for Insurance to commence next month. When asked if Id like payments to be spread monthly I clicked yes and gave bank details. Immediately money was taken from my bank without any consent or instruction to an amount etc. It caused chaos in my bank including charges as it took the money for other things. It left me with nothing!NOWHERE on their terms and cond does it say that will happen. As policy was to start for another month what exactly was I paying for?

I contacted Homeinsurers and was given run around/wrong manager email address and told I would have to write in and complain before anything could be done. After around 4 hours of calls/mails etc I spoke to Ins Omb and Trading standards. I informed Homeinsureres this (who also are part of Thamesbank ins bokers) and finally they have agreed to pay my money back but were trying to then charge me another £20 for admin!

Just be VERY careful what you click and what details you give as unlike most reputable Ins companies where you are sent a policy to peruse firt then decide before any money is taken, these ppl take money first then you have a fight to get it back! Also banks say if you give details you are agreeing they can take it which isnt strictly true.

Gavin are you aware that you are breaking the law (Specifically the Unfair Business Practices Law) by posting on a forum and pretending to be a satisfied customer when you work for the company you are praising.

Surely someone who is the Application Manager for Paragon would have more sense than to do this and surely would be intelligent enough to use a different user name.

Have a read of the specific rule on this from the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations, the one you want to read is number 18.

    http://www.oft.gov.uk/shared_oft/business_leaflets/cpregs/oft979.pdf

I would suggest you have a word with your compliance officer at work as I will report your post to the FSA as breaching the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulation is a specific breach of their regulations. (If anyone else wants to report, simply take a screen print and send it to whistle@fsa.gov.uk along with a screen print of his linked page) http://uk.linkedin.com/pub/gavin-chitticks/1a/928/b18

I am sure the internet does highlight more complaints than compliments.

    Re: Home Insurance - Paragon

I'm with you. Do not use this company, I got the exact same thing this month. My house was almost broken into, but they couldn't get through the door, but they did manage to damage the door badly.

I phoned the police and I did not make a claim straight away, but after 5 weeks, I got my crime reference number, had been locked out of my house twice because the lock began falling to bits as it had been damaged I phoned Paragon and told them what had happened.

To cut a long story short and after dealing with several idiots they have sent a letter to say that they are not paying out on the policy as I was 10 days over the agreed claim period as per page 12 of the insurance policy conditions book.

This company is run by thieves who are happy to take premiums but not pay out when a claim is made. Thankfully I've only been with them for this year and it's only going to cost a couple of hundred pounds to get my door fixed. Imagine if things had been worse?

Stay away from Paragon........they don't deserve to be in business.

    Re: Home Insurance - Paragon

DO NOT USE THIS INSURANCE COMPANY!!

Please, nobody use this insurance company, I have been with them for over two years and recently had cause to ring them. With all the recent snow over the last few months it seems that some damage has been caused to the guttering on the house. This resulted in minor damp coming through into the bedroom, alerting us to the problem. Having never had cause to claim on home insurance I contacted Paragon (whom I had a policy with via Quoteline Direct as the brokers) and alerted them to the problem. The woman on the 'phone was quite rude and insisted on me providing her with an exact date as to when the damage was caused. As you can imagine, I had no idea! I explained this and pointed out that the damage could have been caused due to the weight of snow on any of the last snowfall over recent weeks, or it could have been caused when we had high winds back in October. The woman then immediately jumped on the defensive and pointed out that if the damage could have been caused back in October, they would not cover it as it was more than 30 days ago. Fair enough I thought, a bit gutted that they weren't interested and had easily found a way out of dealing with a claim, but to be honest I was only ringing to enquire as to what the procedure was, not necessarily to make a claim. Imagine my amazement when two days later I get a call from the brokerage, Quoteline Direct, informing me that Paragon had asked them to contact me to inform me that they were cancelling my insurance policy from the date of inception, and returning my premiums!! When asked why, they spun a line and said that as the reported damage could have occurred prior to the time that I renewed the policy, they beleived that I had continued my policy whilst failing to disclose the damage at the time it was taken out! What!?

How am I supposed to know when minor damage is caused, how long does mould take to grow to show me the signs there is a problem?! I'm no expert and I think this company has acted shamefully, they didn't even bother contacting me direct to tell me, instead contacting me through the brokerage at 17.20hrs when I cannot set up a different policy as most places are closed! Not only that, I'm let totally uninsured overnight and until I manage to set up a further policy. Not only that, I've done some quotes online and found that as I have had an insurance policy cancelled that doubles my premium for the companies that would quote me.... all one of them, no other company would quote because of this cancellation!

Criminals these people are, I'm looking forward to my campain of complaints that are heading their way!

    PLEASE DON'T USE THIS COMPANY!!

    Re: Home Insurance - Paragon

Random request - but could you please give me a phone number on which I can contact them?

I had a policy with them back in 2005/6 and need to contact them to get some details about the old policy, but I can't find a contact number anywhere... that will teach me to throw away old policy documents!

    Re: Home Insurance - Paragon

I have insured with Paragon Insurers in the past and I am insured by them now. I have had several claims in the past all of which Paragon handled very well. Any queries I have had they resolved kindly and efficiently. I would recommend them to anyone!

    Re: Home Insurance - Paragon

I am dealing with paragon at the moment, it took me lots of phone calls just to get a claim form, and it did not arrive, then they lost the form I sent back, so I am back at square 1 after 2 months trying to claim. I had to have a heart operation, and these people are crap to say the least. Initially I spoke to 5 different people, they are not interested at all once you have paid for the policy.

I intend to go out of my way to get back at these people.

    Sujana:

    Hi,

I have received a decent and cheap quote from Paragon Insurers, but I wasn't sure whether its worth trusting them, could you help me out in any information as to ccheck whether they are trust worthy or not?

Hmm, they're not bad. Their motor insurance is underwritten by Brit insurance and they are very cheap on the motor also. As with any new product on the market, if you are looking for coverage over price (rather than the usual price over cover) then I recommend you go with somebody with a good proven track record.
