    Re: home improvement loan

Or improving the bathroom or kitchen, improving the flow or layout of the property can all improve the value.

Even improving the garden can add value... just don't add a swimming pool.

Adding the loan to the mortgage is one of the best financing options to do this.

You can repay this over a shorter period of time than the remaining mortgage term.

Overall you will need to have a good credit rating (worth checking), and be able to afford the repayments.

    Re: home improvement loan

Many years ago before Mr Brown was invented the rule of thumb was don't borrow on the value of your home unless the work was going to increase its value more than the amount borrowed immediately and over time with inflation. Now that it was commonplace in the boom years to borrow against one's home for the three classics car, holiday, and a take the door off to get it in TV you pays your money and you takes your choice.

About the only thing that may, especially at present, increase the value of your home is extra bedrooms.
