I am off to change my name tomorrow....

Are you going to try to phone HMR&C to tell them? The same lady who spoke to me yesterday, today suggested I call back later. "thanks for calling and good bye" she said, and hung up! I've lost my touch.

I'm writing to them today. I'll get a posting receipt, just in case they deal with post in a similar way to phone calls.

No - I sent them all my details (P45, P60 and bank interest statements) - they sent me a cheque and three weeks later, they wrote to me, sending me a P800T with workings..... So unless they realise their mistake by April 5th 2011 (& write to me to ask for it back) - it is all mine !!!

    Graeme Delap:

Have you spokent to them yet? What did they say?

I'm currently on the phone this minute. what they are saying is:

"there's information on our web site .... thanks for waiting, one of our adviser will be with you as soon as possible ..."

I'm starting to get hungry so I'll try again later. At some point I need to work out if it will cost more or less to use their 0845 number to sort it out than it would to pay.

Ah, thanks maxsteam. Can you ask them to make sure it's one of the 'nice' ones where they're giving a refund?!

    Graeme Delap:

I'd love to hear what it says!

I'll be phoning them up soon so I can ask them to send one to you if you wish.

Mine is basically a "notice to pay", a brief calculation and offer to spread the payments and a payment slip.

It's addressed to the ex and I, but they've been told that we've separated.

    HMRC letters

HMRC error in your favour, collect...oh, actually you owe us...

Has anyone received a letter from the HMRC about overpaying - or underpaying - tax? I'd love to hear what it says!

For anyone worried about what this all means, Felicity has put together a handy little Q&A. Click here to read.
