I am on a Fixed Price Economy 7 Online monthy direct debit overcharge

and they have changed by direct debit to £67 a month, however we are only using at most £50 a month,

Its good practice that you provided an unasked for reading but I do not think SP should have changed the monthly payment except after generating a bill. (is that what you are saying?).

Apart from having actual readings the other important thing on the bill is whether there is a debit balance or not and if so how much. You need to say before you can get better advice.

£50 (or £67) a month energy is not excessive. If there is a debit balance which you can afford to pay off I would suggest you consider paying it off and reverting to £50 if you are confident that is the right figure. Much easier to do this than to rely on SP returning the surplus in 12 months.

    Help - Direct Debit overcharge!

I am on a Fixed Price Economy 7 Online monthy direct debit overcharge. When I first joined SP I was paying only £30 per month, which on the last review went up to £36 and a couple of days ago I gave another meter reading, unasked and they have changed by direct debit to £67 a month, however we are only using at most £50 a month, which I have been told by another SP customer advisor and worked out when the bill came through.

I live in a two bed flat, that runs off electricity alone, two people out of the house most of the time, try and make most of Economy 7, turn off lights/standby etc.

I emailed SP as soon as they revised payments but now they are saying the lowest they can set it to is £67.50, which is obviously 50p more. Emailed back complaining that we are being overcharged £17 a month and can't they set the DD to a lower amount. Waiting back to hear from them again.

Has anyone else had this issue or know anything about it? Is this a usual practice - I understand that the DD amount has to be enough to cover the amount we use but an extra £17 seems excessive?

    Thank you.
