Re: Heathrow Engine centre
To Cook 4 : You can count me in but I don't have your contact details. I don't know if you've read my posts but I want these people sorted, my car was my work and their piracy contributed to me losing masses of opportunities to earn my living. I appeal to everone who has posted to consider getting involved in some way. Just look at the number of people on this forum who have been ripped off by these people; how many more have gone to Heathrow Motors / Engine Warehouse, got turned over , and done nothing. This has been happening for years, how many more people will it happen to before someone takes action?

Re: Heathrow Engine centre/Engine Warehouse Ltd
I have a seven year old Peugeot 607, which is / was in excellent condition inside and out but with 130,000 miles on the clock, regular sevices, but doing 25,000 miles a year the petrol engine was now worn out. I decided to get the engine reconditioned by a specialist garage rather than buying another car - bad news because I chose Engine Warehouse. The original estimate was £1,795 and the work was to be done in four days. Having collected the car, and stripped down the engine, Engine Warehouse came back with additional work bringing the estimate up to £2,777. I agreed with Engine Warehouse that they should proceed for £2,648.45p; and they took the full money out of Visa Debit card account the following day. According to their terms & conditions “this would be the full amount payable”. However, as days became weeks, Engine Warehouse confirmed that they were unable to restart the car due to the immobiliser, and that they had sent the car to a local Peugeot dealer. Then that the ECU was not working – it had been working when Engine Warehouse had driven my car off the drive – and they needed another £1,200 to repair the ECU. Or I could collect the car as it was. Everything by phone, when I called them for an update. I understand that the ECU – the car black box – can be permanently damaged by short-circuiting through careless work on the immobiliser or other exposure to a high voltage cable. The book price of the car is £2,500, in good running order. So it now looks unlikely that it is worth putting good money after bad. I have had other incidental expenses including car hire (£420) and taxis. Through this web site, I belatedly note that I am not alone. This is not sharp practice – this is a criminal business model: get the car – bump up the price – if you are lucky you will get the car back. My recommendation - go to a main dealer - or get a new car. Definitely don't go to Engine Warehouse.

Re: Heathrow Engine centre/Engine Warehouse Ltd
Whilst I feel terribly sorry for all the people who, have, since the middle of last year been posting messages on this subject, I find it incredible that they only come across the site once they have parted with their money. Does anyone not listen to their usual garage/mechanic? As I have already said, we run a very small engine remanufacturers that has been established for over fifty years and the majority of the engine work that we carry out is for customers who's own garage/ mechanic does not want to take on such a big job and recommends that they bring their car into us. I am sure, and I know that it has happened on occassions, any mention to the garage/mechanic that there is a place over in the Twickenham area that says that they can do it for a much better price, they are soon put straight. So, as I say, whilst I am aware that if you are a person who does not work in some capacity in the motor trade, these people would come across as being the answer to your engine problems, but speak to anyone in the motor trade and these people are notorius. I do not think that anyone will have any success in acheiving a sucessful claim against them, these people have been trading for well over twenty years with various different titles. We stopped advertising in the exchange and mart about fifteen years ago because we could never compete with the size of their advert/ 5 year guarantee/ price etc.. When pestered by the ex and mart why we would no longer advertise with them, we told them that we were fed up with people calling us rip off merchants because the price that we quoted would be the price that they would eventually drive the car away for, but of course, they were not bothered, because Heathrow Engines, or whatever they were called at the time spent far more money than we could ever afford. I think that it was a very short sighted policy as their reputation suffered for it. I think that the best way to tackle these people is through the credit card companies, I don't know if it is possible, but if enough people complained perhaps the card facility providers would withdraw this from them, but whether they would just be able to set up with another? I think anyone who was being asked to pay with cash would surely become suspicious. Any way, good luck, if we could see the back of them for good it would do all decent, reputable garages a favour.

Re: Heathrow Engine centre/Engine Warehouse Ltd
Hi Dengirl you are absolutly right in what you say but as we all know hinsight is a wonderfull thing. I think one of the issues here is that I actualy call myself street wise and have never been connend like this before but they are very clever push all the right buttons say all the right things to get YOUR CAR under there belt once they do that you are very much at there mercy. We all do an awfull lot of shopping etc on the Internet and there site looks profesional says all the righ things and apears to be honest (as we all know its not ..far from it!) I have never come accross another inetrnet compantYwho could woudl treat customers like this lot it is just unbeliveable what they say do and get away with Daylight Robbery. yes I know if it seems to good to be true it probaly is but when you are in the Sxx and this apears to answer all your problems who wouldnt want ther probs solved quickly !! In my case they would not even accept Credit card as a way of payment as they new all the scalms and yes I would have gone straight to teh Credit card company to complain. They are nothing more than PROFESIONAL SCAMMERS and should be shut down .I can belive we just let them get away with it !

It seems that a significant number of people have fallen victim to what used to be known as Heathrow Motor Services Ltd., 169, Brent Road, Southall Middx, UB2 5LE and trading under various names such as Heathrow Engines and so on. I was one of those victims and have now decided to take action. I have reported the matter to the Police and I have alerted the appropriate section of the OFT at http://www.oft.gov.uk/oft_and_cd/ . I would draw your attention to the following collection of sites all of whom are brimming with disgruntled consumers swindled by Heathrow Engines. I have set up a Google group under tradedrights in the UK. Let me know what your experience has been.

Re: Heathrow Engine centre/Engine Warehouse Ltd
I personally had no luck with Letters to them, credit card company didn't do anything, small claims awarded judgement in my favour but by then they had gone into liquidation somehow leaving no assets! If you can't get your car back without losing more money the first thing I would do on getting it back after whatever work they are supposed to be doing would be to get an independant inspection done on the car A.S.A.P to back you up if you need it. ( I hope you don't) It will cost money but might help in the long term. Take photos of the condition of the car when you get it back (think evidence, evidence, evidence.)
