GPRS is also often known as 2.5G, though I've rarely gotten performance close to a 'true' 56Kbps connection out of it, the response times (latency) are way too slow for that. Felt more like a 28/30Kbps link.

    Hi Twee,

The quick answer to your question is yes, standard service is GPRS and GPRS is the 2G service. The next step is 3G and then HSDPA which is 3.5G.

You seem pretty clued up about speeds and what services are available for each speed. We are making network enhancements all over the country and in the future, not too distant hopefully, you would then start to get a better speed and service down there in Somerset. :-)

    Thanks

GPRS vs Vodafone USB Broadband key - speeds

OK we all know about Broadband and how much faster it is than dial up - but for someone in deepest darkest Somerset (miles away from the vodafone broadband wireless network) - my only mobile option is GPRS - Which limits me somewhat to (a true) 56k - now, as far as I can figure out, from vodafone.co.uk - when outside the operating area of 7.2Mbps, or even 1.8Mbps - The rest of us have to make do with "standard service" - my question is what speed is "standard service" ?

Is this 2g and is 2g another name for GPRS ?
