I think the £1,000 limit does apply Dave as this is a student insurance plan not a home contents policy, so there are certain restrictions such as a £1,000 or £1,500 limit per claim - None of which should effect me as I paid less than £1000 for the tv, I got an excellent Christmas deal for it from Tesco Direct!

Nevertheless, I am gutted to say the least about the tv, I hardly ever used the tv because I liked it so much and didn't want to wear out the neon strips inside or whatever they are, but what a waste that was now the screen is all cracked. Nevermind, hopefully the insurance company will give me enough to get another nice one. - I have noticed the prices in HD LCDs seems to be dropping vastly at the moment.

I will repeat the advice to ignore that question.

Also, most standard policies provide accidental damage to home entertainment equipment - so youy might find that the £1k limit wont apply.

No, of course you don't have to report that to the Police, you simply fill the form in crossing that area out with the words,"not applicable", accidental damage claim, written in that section.

What you will have downloaded is a standard claim form, so there is the facility for the Police report if needed i.e theft, fire etc. The fact your a student is not relevant, if you have cover your entitled to make the claim. Be prepared for them asking for receipts, for the damaged goods.

Thanks for the reply, yes I did get accidental damage of up to £1000 per claim, mainly because the house is quite secure, so the chances of theft were quite low, so I put on accidental on the policy too.
But I didn't include the big money things like mobile phone protection and laptop protection out of the house, as these started to rack up the premium.

Nah - ignore that bit. Assuming you HAVE accidental damage cover on your policy then it should be fine.

Hello, I have never made a claim before. Yesterday my tv fell through its glass stand when I dropped something onto the glass, and unfortunately the screen has been cracked - Its one of those HD LCD ones.

I got my claims forms from my insurers website and there is a section titled 'Details of Police Security Report'
Underneath it says 'Berfore submitting this form, please ensure that all theft or malicious danage claims are reported to the police'

Mine is neither of these, its just an accident, but do I still have to report it to the police so that I can get a crime reference number?
Its just the form is structured in a way that makes you think any claim should have been reported to the police, but I didn't think I would have to report my tv falling through its stand to the police!

Your thoughts and oppinions would be great, as the insurance company offices are closed for the evening now.

I am a student by the way and under student cover - if that makes any difference.
