In most cases, gas is the most expensive fuel.

Saying that, an electric fire is very expensive to run. I'm not too sure if a gas one would save you any money, but I do know for a fact that they do use a lot of electricity.

Depends on the efficiency of the fire you buy and how it is fitted. I don't think it is a straightforward look at the relative costs between gas and electricity units.

Some electric fires can be very expensive to run and with some gas fires half the heat they create goes up the chimney.

I think that all such products now have to come with details of the running costs and an energy rating. So it is probably best to research the products available.
