Re: Gas Bill recieved for 94 days at £1448. HELP

Yeah, I get the names, Dates and times of everyone I speak to.

Figures out what they have done.

On the last reading instead of them using the reading 23567 for example, they used 32467.

Last call I made the girl i spoke to confirmed the previous entry and advised us it was an easy thing to change.

Simple mistake that is taking ages to sort out.

We moved away from British Gas almost four months ago.

I am half prepared to see what happens, would l love to end up in court to sort this out but its not worth it.

I am ringing tomorrow again and requesting a DPA disclosure form so I can see what they have on my file, That should be the evidence I need to continue.

    Uncle Fester

Have you logged names of people you have spoken with?

Until this is resolved you need to keep an exact record of what is going on. Maybe your phone bill: (calls registered) could help.

Having said that, this thread is always a handy reference point.

Sorry if I am pointing out the obvious. ( Turn gas off totally maybe & see what happens)

    Hang in there!!

Re: Gas Bill recieved for 94 days at £1448. HELP

Well I spoke too soon I guess.

We received a new bill from British gas for our electric.

    Was exactly the same.

So the four calls we have made and the constant promises of re-calculation has not happened.

I dont know what to do with them that would work.

We have the correct logs and have been advised on each call that the error is obvious, but nothing has happened.

    Calling them AGAIN tomorrow.

    Will advise.

Re: Gas Bill recieved for 94 days at £1448. HELP

Got a result today after finally getting through.

It turns out that when the last meter reader was taken, they estimated the point to start from rather than using the reading taken.

After speaking to British Gas today, polite fella, very sorry for the issue, they are re-issuing the bill to us with the correct reading on.

That should be in a few weeks but at least the bill has been stopped.

Will update you once I get the actual bill.

    UncleFester can breath again.

I find it very strange (if not surprising) that you are struggling to get throught.

It isnt discussed above, but I assume you have checked their estimate against the actual & now just need to point out to them correction?

As for providing this to them - you could always write to them with the reading (you may well get through on the phone in the meantime, but will mean you have only wasted the price of a stamp if you do)

I wouldn't bother trying to contact them any more. Ring or email energy watch and let them deal with it. CCC.Enquiries AT energywatch.org.uk This is the address i used for my complaint. When i post this the AT symbol will change to the word, but you will need to put the symbol in to send to mail.
    Good Luck

    So far.
After a week of trying to get to speak to someone we are no closer.
Sent an email to their support team.

Will just have to keep trying.

Re: Gas Bill recieved for 94 days at £1448. HELP

    Thanks all.

So far after two days of trying to get in touch we have a zero success rate.
Minimum 20 min wait and on most cases we got cut off before we could get an answer.
Will be on the phone at 08:00 tomorrow, unless they are still queuing.
Been advised to speak to their complaints and request a Data protection for to gain access to all my data and the calculations so far.
    Also to speak to OfGem.

    Fingers crossed for tomorrow.

    unclefester,

You definitely need to speak to British Gas as this is surely an error.

If you don't have any luck getting through then speak to energywatch.

Let us know how you get on.

Re: Gas Bill recieved for 94 days at £1448. HELP

    HI
I would report them to Energy Watch. I changed to British Gas March 06 and I hadn't recieved a gas bill in 10mths, even though I rang and emailed. So I reported them, they took 10% off my bill as a good will gesture, how kind, I'm still stuck with a £350 bill. It's easier to get through to Energy watch and speak to someone than it is to get through to British Gas.
    Good Luck

Re: Gas Bill recieved for 94 days at £1448. HELP

    Thanks Ronbobby.

The 45 units a day was taken from me doing a check at the same time every day.
most days ran at 20 to 30, but with winter even if I allow for 45 I dont come close to the gas bill.

The bill, when you calculate the days divided by the units comes to the 154 units a day.

Will get onto them tomorrow and let you know how I get on.

I do wonder what you would need to be running to use 154 units a day though.

Re: Gas Bill recieved for 94 days at £1448. HELP

when you recieve a bill ALWAYS check theire meter figures against your meter readings. your bill will state previous readings and present reading if they don't tally all future bills will be wrong. you quoted = " they believe you used 45 units a day ? " which makes me believe they are estimating your useage. they either know " exactly " your useage or they " believe " ie guess your useage....

Gas Bill recieved for 94 days at £1448. HELP

    Hi.

We live in a semi detached house.
Myself and my wife, two children and my disabled father.

Over the last few months out electric bill has been paid on time and we had a DD set for £40 a month.

After being sick and tired of them mixing bills and causing general problems, we decided to switch.
We received a Bill from British gas today for £1448. (94 days use)

From the bill they believe we are using 154 units a day.

The last check we did in January we where on around 45 units a day.

Obviously this must be an error and i have tried to call them today, but due to bill maintenance they are closed.
I can see a lengthy call to them on Monday, can anyone advise on the best approach.

    Thanks in Advance.
