    gas bill

    Hi All,

I'm new to this, but was just wanting peoples opinion on my gas statement.

I have recieved a gas statement for £434 calculated from end of january to 21st April...on querying this with npower i was told it was calculated on the reading I gave them of 295 units (which I did do).

The only thing is, is that I live in a 3 bed terrace...the only gas I used in this time was the central heating (which is a brand new combi boiler) with only 3 radiators actually turned on...the thermostat was on quite high at about 26 C.

Can anyone please help and let me know if this price is too high

    Thanks

    Re: gas bill

It all depends, what size is the 3 bed terrace compared to the norm, is it an end terraced. It maybe woth you turning the temp down as to be honest 26 is too hot.

    louise09:

There a several issues here. A statement is only accurate if the previous and latest readings are both actual readings which you don't say.

Secondly you don't mention which tariff you are on so its impossible to say whether its good value or not. Some Npower tariffs feature "seasonal weighting" which sneakily loads the winter bill.

Thirdly, 26 deg will COST, so unless there is a reason for 26 deg, a more common setting would be 21 deg. You don't mention whether you use a timer either. That could affect costs.

Next, how does the cost compare with the previous quarter?

Not enough information to be more helpful unfortunately.

    Re: gas bill

    thanks for the reply.

This is my first bill as I bought the property in January, the metre I first had was a prepayment one which i didn't put any credit on as was renovating the house then the metre got stolen so had a normal credit metre fitted around the end of Jan beginning Feb.

The statement is from 0 (which the metre was at when fitted) to 295 which is the reading I gave them on 21 April.

I have no idea what tarrif i'm on, it's not been mentioned...I thought it was all the same, although on the phone he did say to me that the gas prices go down for the summer months!

Heating was on 26c for a lot of feb to april as there'd been no heating in the house for at least 6 months, i had a lot of damp and plaster work to dry then I moved in middle march and was constantly cold. There isn't a timer i have a controllable thermostat so it was turned down to 15c when we were out or in bed.

    thanks

The tariff or product you are on will be stated on the statement as will the kwhr price of the gas. Use a price comparison website to compare and find the best value in your area. Easier if you convert the 295 to kwhrs for the comparison. The conversion will be on your statement.

You possibly don't realise it but the "prices go down for the summer months" statement (perhaps that should be "we put our prices up for the winter") is an indication that your tariff has seasonal weighting of primary units. The effect is to load cost onto your winter bill.

You need to do a price comparison to find out whether or not you are paying too much.
