    Hi Mr Spock,

Thanks for the good info. about scottish power etc, I think I will bite the bullet, and go for the price fall package before it's too late.

Have a good / Happy Christmas and a peaceful and prosperous New Year.

    Re: gas and electricity suppliers

    Hi david

I am also with Manweb ScottishPower and pay by dd online, with their PriceFall tariff.

I have contacted them in the past couple of days as prices now seem to be on the up, it was in the paper that Npowers new sign online tariff (9) gas price is 17% higher than sign online 8 and the electricity is nearly as high. They reckon this time next month all suppliers would have begun or done a price increase.

PriceFall guarantees no rises until November 2008, or they do another tariff which is Online Energy 4 which has really good rates but dont think they are guaranteed.

As for DD. Well you seem to get penalised where ever you are now adays if you dont pay by DD. All suppliers offer cheaper tariffs for DD than paying quarterly. But I know Scottishpower actually increased its prompt payer discount to £50 for dual fuel in june this year (as my grandparents pay that way) but didnt lower their prices, it did for DD.

I know with DD with ScottishPower they are now only contacting and increasing your monthly dd if your payments are not on track. Also the beauty is, as you know, with an online account, you can keep your eye on it yourself, even put in monthly readings if you want, and this will tell you on a month by month basis exactly what you are using.

The best bit is, if you decide to change your package, to either PriceFall or Online energy 4 you can do this simply via your internet account, via the change my service option, and you can do that now. Again Pricefall guarantees you lower rates than your paying now(as you will be moving from quarterly to dd) and those new rates are guaranteed for the next 11 months. If you decide to change supplier, moving to qtrly cash at your new supplier, you might find when your transfer completes. after 4-6 weeks your rates have gone up again........

    Re: gas and electricity suppliers

    Hi Paul,

Thanks for the reply, my postcode is M41 (manchester).

I will try the comparison site, but last time I looked I couldn't find the payment method I have - Quartely, on line, standard with standing charge as one of the payment options (which obviously will have a bearing in the cost calculation).

I know a lot, if not all suppliers give maximum discount if you use direct debit, but I always feel as if they all want more per month than is really required (They like to keep more of your money in their accounts), that's why I pay on line each quarter.

    Thanks again,

    David Gilbert

    Re: gas and electricity suppliers

David in order to answer your question accurately I would need your post code but as your consumption is very near the average for both Gas and Electricicy I suspect that the best dual fuel deal for you would be B Gas or Spark and you could probably save about £250 a year. You can also earn a £30 cashback from Moneysupermarket if you choose a product that you can apply for via our site. I suggest you use our comparison service to find the best available dual fuel deal. Enter your post code, your consumption levels, your current payment method and the results table will give you the answer that you are looking for. Our claculator takes account of all the various unit prices from all the suppliers. Good Luck Paul

    gas and electricity suppliers

    Dear Paul,

I am currently on a dual fuel deal with scottish power - manweb, it is an online standard account with standing charge.

I use approximately 21000kwh of gas, and 4000kwh of electricity a year, Could you tell me which supplier is offering the best deal on gas and electricity, as I think I am paying too much at the moment.

I find the real price of each unit of fuel you use, is lost in a fog of mind boggling figures produced by the suppliers.

You help would be greatly appreciated,

    Thanks David Gilbert.
