Friend borrowed car, had crash, 3rd party, help!!

A friend borrowed our car and as she already had her own fully comprehensive insurance we took the risk and decided not to add her as a named driver on ours. Subsequently she wrote the car off. (No one was seriously hurt). As she was only 3rd party insured to drive our car the other driver will have her damage covered but we are left with nothing.

Does anyone know if there is something we can do, other than demand our friend replaces the car?

    Thanks.

hi there i currently work in car insurance if you have motor legal protection on your policy then it could be worth finding out if they could help other than that there isn't a lot else as the driving other cars extesion is 3rd party only so it covers anything you hit but not your own damage the only thing i can think of doing is as asking them to ask their insurance company to pay out for it. hope this helps a bit for you

I guess you could sue your friend, but that's much the same as demanding she replaces the car. Sounds like a recipe for losing friends to me.

As you said; you decided to take the risk. Presumably the accident was your friend's fault?
