    forecourt insurance

    Hi

We are new to driving and are looking forward to purchasing our first car.

As yet we do not have car insurance.

I have read that some manufacturers offer insurance but they can take advantage of the new drivers keeness to get on the road and the new driver can end up paying a lot more than if they had done their research.

    We will be buying used.

Can you give me details of 'Cover Notes' and 'Certificates'

Would you also tell me about Tracking devices which when installed can help to reduce the cost of insurance.

    Looking forward to response.

    Re: forecourt insurance

    Hey Seagirl,

Welcome to the forum - and the pleasure we call car insurance.

This being your first car and insurance, I would suggest that you stick with a popular, small engine, non-sporty model of car (Corsa 1.0, Fiesta 1.25, for example) to keep down your insurance costs. These types of car would probably not economically benefit from fitting a tracker device or such however an alarm system may help. THe tracker would be more fitting on a specialist/sports model.

I would avoid 'free insurance' from garages as nothing is free. Manufacturers periodically offer this on new cars but the level of discount off the price of the car is never anywhere near what it would be without the free insurance. This won't matter to you if you are buying used...just remember to get a good car at a fair price.

Draw up a shortlist of cars with low insurance groups and do some research on price and availability in the marketplace.

Cover notes and certificates of insurance are your physical proof that you have the vehicle insured, these are issued by the company you choose to insure your car with.

Click the red tab at the top of the page to compare insurance quotes on pretty much any car - remembering to phone the insurer to check the policy details before buying a policy...

    JJ
