    flexi-cover direct travel insurance

hi i purchased an annual travel insurance for myself and my wife from FLEXI COVER DIRECT via a link from this site. My problem began when i had o cancel my holiday because my FATHER passed away suddenly 3 days before we were due to fly i put a claim in for the holiday they sent their forms out one of which was a MEDICAL DECLARATION one which i had to send to my FATHER'S GP which i did one of the questions was did the patient my DAD sufer from any problems with what he died of the DOCTOR ticked NO and wrote at the side SUDDEN DEATH one of the next questions was about his Medication which again the doctor filled in. I sent the claim form back and had a reply saying Due to the MEDICATION that my DAD was on they have DECLINED to pay out The medication was for blood pressure NOTHING to do with Heart Attacks. Has anyone had any problems like this with this company or any other company and WON hope you can help

    Re: flexi-cover direct travel insurance

I am sorry to hear of the loss of your father.

Whilst several travel insurance policies do allow policyholders to screen for pre-existing medical conditions, many policies offered through Moneysupermarket do not have this facility and Flexicover.net seems to be one of these. It looks as if the Flexicover policy excludes any claims that are directly or indirectly related to any pre-existing medical condition.

Although I am not in the medical profession it is generally thought blood pressure is related to the cardiovascular and circulatory systems and uncontrolled blood pressure can lead to an increased risk of heart attack. The premiums on Moneysupermarket are calculated to reflect an Insured Person with no increased risk factors and it is for this reason that the Moneysupermarket warranty specifically warns policyholders that cover for any pre-existing medical conditions will not be available to both themselves and any person on whom the trip plans would depend.

If you feel that you answered the medical warranty to the best of your knowledge at the time, then it may be worth contacting Flexicover through the complaints process in the wording and ask them to reconsider the claim.

    Hope this helps

Sorry to hear about the loss of your dad...

It is sad this goes on more than we would like...... 2 of my grandparent died out of the blue while I was on holidays (years ago) with parents and both times the insurance companies either refused to pay or did not cover all costs involved. Both oldies were not on any medication at the time! and still very little payout!

my dad did not get home in time to bury his father........ No amount of money could solve that.

    Count your blessings....

    Just food for thought!
