    Re: Fixed price EDF

    Dear Scott,

I spendt a few hours yesterday finding out whether we should switch from EDF to other providers. I must say I am not wiser today especially reading the many different views and oppinions about the different supplyers. Would you be able to help me finding a good and relyable supplayer in my area?

dual fuel, 2 adults 1 small child

    EC1Y 8TB

    monthly electricity £35

    Monthly gas £30

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Re: Fixed price EDF

    SLucy,

Firstly, although you are selecting medium usage on the energywatch website, this actually calculates that you are using 20,500kwh Gas and 3,300kwh Electric. In actual fact you are using more than half that amount of Gas.

Secondly, our calculator is taking in alot more information and therefore providing a more accurate reading.

I actually think the energywatch calculator might need updating and will speak to them today to clarify this.

As you rightlty say, we at moneysupermarket.com ensure our prices are accurate in order to guarantee that you the customer are getting the best deal.

    Hope this helps.

    Re: Fixed price EDF

    Hi Scott,

All prices are for payment quarterly

    Energy Watch:

Medium user, dual fuel, postcode LS25

Saving shows as £14 with British Gas over EDF

    Moneysupermarket,

Postcode LS25 6AQ, £400 for gas and £350 on electricity, has no drop down list choice for "Dual fuel 2010" only "fixed price 2010" if that makes a difference.

Saving shows as £103 saving with Atlantic over EDF.

I know money supermarket should be more accurate as you are actually inputting usage but this seems a lot of difference?

    SLucy,

Can you give me the details you have used to get these figures so that I can look into this for you.

I'm sure there is a saving to be made but my biggest concern is that you seem to be getting different figures from each site.

The EDF 2010 tariff is a good tariff but with prices starting to drop i would advise that you look at an alternative product. One of the online tariffs may be more suited as these carry the lowest rates and have excellent MDD discount (if this is your preferred method of payment).

    Re: Fixed price EDF

Thanks but having consulted this site compared to http://www.energywatch.org.uk/help_and_advice/saving_money/index.asp which is the energy watchdog there seems to be a vast difference. I would only be saving £14 a year for a medium user! Very suspicious....

Don't know why they should be so very different?

Have also just checked out uswitch who only quote £113 (pay on receipt of bill) saving which on a £850 yearly combined bill only needs a 13% increase to completely wipe out any saving over the next years of the EDF fixed deal.

    Re: Fixed price EDF

SLucy -- I played around with the comparison tool at the top of this page, click the Orange gas & electricity tab, I live in Yorkshire so I input my postcode and details using EDF dual fixed 2010 tariff, consumption amounts of £450 / Gas, £400 / Electric yearly, using Monthly DD.

When it came back with results of which there were lots of cheaper suppliers than your present EDF, the top saving was around £150 / year, by switching to British gas online clicksaver energy 2 plan.

So it would seem a substantial saving can be made by you, but would urge you to input your personal details into the comparison tool, to clarify the saving available in your particular case. Make sure you don't get charged by EDF for switching out of the fixed price deal, if you do, you will have to weigh this against the saving you make.

P.S. Switching supplier through Moneysupermarket also pays a £30 bonus cashback courtesy of MS on top of the saving.

    Fixed price EDF

I wonder if anyone can provider some advice on swapping supplier, we are currently on the EDF dual fuel fixed price until 2010 and having looked on the comparison tool it seems if we moved supplier there would be very little saving but would lose the fixed price until 2010. Is this anyone else's experience?

Also I cannot seem to find any deals that include cheaper fixed price offers then currently offered by the EDF 2010 duel fuel deal (yorkshire area) or am i better staying put? Thanks for any advice you can provide.
