    rabbijohn:

    Thanks,

I have just been looking into it and the process involved. To be honest, I am terrible at this sort of stuff and with work being like it is I just dont have that much spare time to read up and fully understand the process, so any advice, pointers or where to go would be appreciated.

Maybe I should get a solicitor to help?

The first thing to do is to apply to the credit card company for a copy of your credit card agreement using the s.78 of CCA 1974 procedure (there should be a template letter on this forum or somewhere on the internet - Google is your friend).

Yous can do this this quite legally and without prejudicing any future negotiations.

Once you have a copy of your agreement (should one turn up!!) you can ask here for further advice as to how to proceed. Depending on the agreement you could ask one of the no win no fee solicitors. Whilst there may be a few legit claim specialist companies about, I wouldn't presume to recommend any.

    Hi,

if they say they can guarentee to wipe all your debt ask them to put it in writing because i can tell you now they wont... its reckless people like this who are getting people further into debt.

they cant nothing... if you want to go down this route you should aske them to put their money where their mouth is and tell them to pay the upfront fee.

    Financial clams specialists

Having spoken with a company called claimed4u.com, and as with anything these sorts of companies offer I took it with a large grain of salt and declined to make any upfront decisions without seeking advice.

I am very inexperienced in these areas and the offer of having all my debts wiped clean is a temping one, however being weary of all such offers takes precedence. Their basic approach is that they 'guarantee' to wipe off your debt on credit cards/loans taken out pre 2007 on the basis that the credit agreement is unenforcable......all for a small fee.

Originally they suggested putting the fee onto the card I am wanting to wipe off.....which got my back up instantly. However when I informed them that the card is now cancelled and I am just trying to deal with the debt which is incurring interest and over the agreed CC limit by about £1000. They said that is fine and I can just pay the fee reguarly, which isnt a problem with me so long as it works.

The only reason I am taking any interest is that my CC was given to me with my student account in 2000 when came to the UK for university (am an ex pat), and where the original limit was a small one they continually upped the limit year after year, and at no point can I ever remember signing a credit agreement, but rather I was just 'given' the money. And now the bank is hounding me for money and applying huge interest on the outstanding amount and not providing any help at all in the matter, fobbing me off left right and centre and to deal with departments that I can only contact via written letter.

Do any of you have any information on how these companies actually work, if they work and if i'm just being a naive fool and they will run off with my upfront fee?

    Thanks in advance.
