UK and worldwide stock markets have rallied after the US government announced it was to take control of troubled mortgage companies Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Experts believe it will give a much needed boost to the UK housing market, easing the pressure on the wholesale markets and leading to the increased availability of mortgages.
