    extremely stressed

    Hi

I did a UK CHAPS with the Halifax on wed 15 july and 2 days later the recipient still hasn't recieved the funds. I phoned the Halifax yesterday and today. The first time i called they said the 'right' department i needed to speak to was closed and when i called today they said the money had been debited from my account and sent to the recipient and the money may be held in the recipients's bank's CHAPS holding account and that the recipient should chase this up with their bank? That was this afternoon. I wanted to call the Halifax again as the recipient still hasn't heard anyhting but i was too late and the 'right' department was yet again closed and i will have to wait till tomorrow when i can go into my local branch to find out what's going on... I am worried because i don't know where the money is and the whole point of the CHAPS was to get it in on the same day.. does anyone have any advice/suggestions? many thanks

I have seen a few cases in the past where the CHAPS request was not completed correctly. The money is deducted from account but due to error with the request, the money is not transfered. If this happens my understanding is that it appears on an error report and will then have to be resolved by the sender. The Halifax should have an accounts report that will show this error.Once they find it on this report, they then have to arrange to resend the CHAPS.

This is the only conclusion I can think of from your post. If all the information on the request was accurate, the money would have been transfered. I doubt you will be able to sort this out on a Saturday as I suspect the team dealing with CHAPS will not be available until Monday.

Yes can confirm actual experience with A & L huckster. On a couple of occasions when I've had concerns I've phoned the dedicated line and they've either put me straight or said you have to wait till "x" and if still a problem call again or whatever. A & L is 24hrs surprised Halifax isn't.

    Access

Some companies say they are open 24 hours, but is that for everything? I suspect that only simple processes can be dealt with outside of normal business hours. For anything more complicated e.g looking into CHAPS problems I suspect Mon-Fri 9-5 will still be the only times that banks deal with such issues.

access said "A & L is 24hrs surprised Halifax isn't." im not surprised. i wouldnt let halifax look after a kiddies sweet jar. in my experience the worst excuse for a bank ive ever had the misfortune to deal with in nearly 40 years. i took them to the fsa over their appalling service .. and won. they couldnt even manage to get my own cheque into my account - they thought it would be a hoot to give it to someone else !

you have my sympathy maxine. i had extreme stress over a 3 month period trying to sort out their incredibly poor service dealing with totally feckless staff who knew considerably less about banking than me - & ive never worked in a bank.
