    Re: excess

suarty:You have provided me with a house insurance quote with Halifax but on the policy details it quotes £250 voluntary excess, yet I put in the field box that I want to have £50 excess; how can I change this?

In addition to Peter's advice, please be careful with Halifax's restrictions RE: High Risk Items and their limitations. Halifax have a bedroom rated policy with lower than average values per number of bedrooms. ie. their total cover for high risk items within the home is £7,500 for a 3 bedroom property with a limit of £1,500 for an individual item.

Note also that their Escape of Water excess is £250 in addition to the standard excess. This is a new endorsement introduced within the last 12 months (for Halifax anyway).

As their coverage is 'Unlimited' (or Blanket Covered) this is sometimes seen as a policy benefit. It's not. You will never be paid £500,000 where a rebuild is £100,000 etc. Because of this, I've found Halifax to have a high premium for the buildings cover.

    Re: excess

    Hi

Is the total excess with Halifax £250 or just the voluntary? If its the latter can I ask you to please send me on your quote details and we shall look into this, if its the total excess then on the question page on Moneysupermarket you'll have been asked if you wish to have any voluntary excess when you selected £50, this is in addition to any compulsory excess Halifax may charge you.

    Kind Regards
    Peter
