    TalkTalkBoy:

    Hi,

You may be able to recieve a higher speed if you request TalkTalk to lower your SNR margin.  If you want to PM me your details i dont mind doing this for you.

    Thanks again.

Hi TTBoy - when I suggested I might cancel my DD with TT - I just got an email from Vicky Povey at TT Complaints.  I will see what she says about the sudden drop to 32 x less speed than promised.  She just called me and has an engineer calling me on Monday. Apparantly I've been listed as upgraded last Thursday!!  My upgrade in fact lopped off my connection speed to 228 kbs.

How do I PM on this forum??  cheers  Chris

    Re: My oh my

Darling.. I feel your pain and went through it for 5 months..

After two private e-mails with TTboy on this forum, he solved all my problems AND got me a refund.

Talk Talk to HIM... he helped me, my hand to god!

He was kind, courteous and put his money where his mouth was.  If they had him in charge, things might just shape up over there.

I have sent Mr Dunstone an e-mail with the same information.

Trust me, get in touch with him..

That goes for everyone on this forum!

    Good luck !!

    Re: My oh my

Having been with TT for over 18 months and after many emails to and from Charles Dunstone complaining about the total misrepresentation of the 'up to 8mbs' slogan to suck us in, I have today emailed him and his Complaints Dept as follows:-

     Dear Mr Dunstone,

Sorry to have to email you again - it'll be the
    last probably.

Here's the gist of what I've sent to TT Customer
services, and to Keith Myers at Complaints.  I guess you'll be used to these
types of emails given what I've seen on the TT review forums.

This joke gets worse and worse.  I even got up at 5
am to see what ADSL speeds are.  I am now connecting at 256kbs !!!  Thats half
the speed I was on a year ago.

I realise TT must be sharing my ADSL connection with China and India
hence the pathetic dial-up speeds I am getting.

My business and domestic service is slowing to a
crawl and is unsustainable - I will cancel my Direct Debit to TalkTalk
this week if the problem is not solved within 5 days.

I am deadly serious about a refund or reduced
monthly charge whilst I find a way of getting 21st century connection from
    somewhere.

    regards ******************

ps speed has dropped every day from 1.2 mb, to 980,
    to 860, to 756, to 512, and today the amazing 256 kb/s . Tomorrow I shall
probably have to send faxes. Thanks Talk Talk for your 'Up to 8mb/s'
    slogan.
If anyone on this forum has a bright suggestion as to how I can get at least up to 1.2 mbs again and dump TT I'll be a happy bunny.

    Re: My oh my

Talk Talk (aka: Craphone Whorehouse) should really have their plugs pulled on this one. My team has spent many months converting some of the clients who never got service back to a service provider who works.

I urge all serious broadband users to remember the following mantra:

"The only broadband provider who can guarantee their service levels are the ones who physically own the cable that goes from the hole in the wall in your home to the exchange equipment."

Anyone else is EITHER using a hybrid service (where they are simply a billing mechanism over a BT service) or they are an LLU service provider (Local Loop Unbundled) where the cable that comes from you home is UNPLUGGED from BT's equipment in the exchange and plugged into that ISP's equipment. In my opinion, both Hybrid and LLU services are poorly explained and should be accompanied with a government health warning for the unsuspecting user.

Talk Talk is possibly only second in the "Zenith of Crapdom" awards to Pipex who tie with AOL - both of whom achieved 9.9 in the Sphincter Irritation Scale over the last three months of business. Maybe Talk Talk will take Pipex's crown, but unless AOL manages to outdo themselves in the next month, I'm afraid that Talk Talk will have to console themselves with being second in the Worst Service Provider in the UK awards.

HOT NEWS: OFCOM are rapidly managing to incur the wrath of the SHARK as they continue to represent the most useless and expensive bunch of to55ers in the telecommunication industry. Doing little except to shrug their shoulders in the face of massive customer complaints in the Broadband and Telephone industries, OFCOM's latest 'decision' to force all 0870 telephone users to pay for the use of the number will do nothing to deter banks from coining it, but has managed to destroy small businesses from gaining a little revenue from the many 'phone calls that we don't charge users for who seem to expect free technical support. OFCOM has done nothing about AOL, Pipex or Talk Talk in the face of massive numbers of complaints - mainly from users who have been fleeced of their hard-earned cash, but who have subsequently not received the service that they had paid for.

    SHARK!

This is unbelievable, but Talk Talk smelled foul to me from the start. It's amazing that the 'free' bundled con-offer works so well.
I really wouldn't be able to afford being cut off as I am working from home for this length of time, and then dealing with debt collectors. My oh my, but people are still signing up.

I bet you the CEO of Talk Talk is laughing all the way to the bank.
They've had hundreds of thousands of new customers, even if all of them are disgruntled, that'll still mean that thousands are staying because it is too much hassle to leave.  All the services that are bundled by providers such as Talk Talk and Orange can be bought independently anyway at similiar rates. You probably just have to look around here on Moneysupermarket.

As I said before 'Small is beautiful' when it comes to broadband providers. There are tons of broadband minnows out there with just a few customers. I don't know Namesco, but I recommend Fairbroadband. Smaller companies have another set of issues, if only 5 people work in a company, you might not get serviced on a Sunday, or the website isn't flash because it is homemade by a volunteering student, but I rarely had any issues.

My guess is that from 20.000 customers onwards, businesses become aloof about their broadband customers. We just have to make sure to not make companies too big.

Re: I just had to join this MS forum to warn others about Talk Talk

My experience of TalkTalk is:-  I was conned into joining by their offer of "free" broadband in April 2006 (I accepted the fact that I wouldn't receive Broadband until the end of June)....End of June appeared...and passed,  as did ends of July, August and September. I finally got it in October, only to eventually find I was paying £10/month for it.  On complaining I was told it was because they didn't have their equipment in my exchange....BUT ...quote... £10/month was exceptionally good value compared to other ISP's. unquote.......  I then had so much trouble I asked for the MAC code (in November) but ..."sod's law"...when it arrived everything was working OK. so I didn't use it. (info. that came with it stated "if not used, the MAC code would expire in 30 days).  As said ....I didn't use it...and in January 2007 I was cut off from the internet....after 3 weeks I found out from TalkTalk it was because I had asked for the MAC code previously. I then transferred my internet provider to Tiscali .....and on the advice from BT.  that my 18 month contract with TalkTalk would have reverted to 3 months due to the fact they had broken their contract in not supplying "free" broadband,  I transferred my phone provider back to BT.    The outcome was I have had to pay a "cessation fee" to TalkTalk of £70 because they say I broke the original contract of 18 months. ......."Debt collection" (and all that entails)...was threatened if I didn't pay  ...and BT. don't want to know what their employee advised ...as they say he wasn't qualified to give that advice.

    Re: Escape from TalkTalk

Why don't you try smaller providers such as Namesco or Fairbroadband. Clearly price seems to be the most important factor in people's choice of provider, but the smaller companies are pretty reasonable. I have been with Fairbroadband for four years.

Re: I just had to join this MS forum to warn others about Talk Talk

They have only just been notified which is why this may have happend, it can take 24 hours or so for them to pick up the notification.  If you give talktalk a call now they will be able to explain or alternatively if you have an alternative email address i dont mind explaining to you this way rather than on a public form.

P.S you may want to edit your post and take off your telephone number

    Regards,
