Back in August, when energy providers announced massive increases, Eon's Energy Online V5 had discounts totalling 19% for managing your account online. They increased unit prices by some 30% and introduced a new V8, which were the original lower V5 prices - but reduced the discounts from 19% down to 13%. It was these lower V8 prices that appeared on all the comparison switching websites, and so many thought Eon a good deal and switched providers.
Those already on Eon's V5 moved to the new V8 tariff to avoid the 30% inceases, but suffered a 6% reduction in online discounts. Predictably, just 2 months later, Eon have announced they are now increasing the V8 tariff by 30%. This will clobber all those new customers who have just switched to Eon thinking the price increases had already been phased in - and also the existing online customers who now suffer the 30% increase AND a 6% reduction in discounts.
Is this good business or just downright crooked?
