It's worth changing the oil every year or so. A new fuel filer is worth fitting every few years. Other than that, if it's running well, my feeling is that you should leave it alone.

Main dealers will charge you around four times what it would cost anywhere else so a 10% discount is not worth getting excited about.

Emission Control Servicing - is it worth?

    Hi all,

I just called up the dealership and booked a service for my 1.3 Ecoflex Corsa (diesel, 45k miles, 09 reg) and they asked if I wanted to add an "Emission Control Servicing" for £38. I am totally mechanically illiterate but reading here and there I understand they would basically flush the fuel system/engine ultimately improving engine performance and lowering fuel consumption. Given my milage, I reckon it would be good doing.

I am not sure however if it's just a gimmick to squeeze more money out of me.

Checking on their website I have just found out there's a 10% discount on the service bill (currently £150) when adding the Emission Control Servicing, making the total cost ca £170.

    Any thoughts?

At the moment I am 75% for the extra servicing......

    K
