    Re: Electricity bill

    Hi there,

Did you take readings when you moved in? And also when you moved out?

It's likely that they've based the bill on estimated readings as they probably weren't supplied them. It doesn't seem THAT excessive, large certainly but it looks like it could be est readings. Your heating was all electric and this does use a lot of supply (i worked in teh complaints dept for a utility firm a while back and that was one of the biggest issues).

If you're concerned that they're charging you for prev occupants electricity, get proof or confirmation of the date you moved in as well as out (council tax bill or a copy of your lease should do).

Lastly, if you're not satisfied with EDF's answer, do NOT leave it there. There's an organisation called Consumer Focus (The new name for Energywatch) as well as OFGEM, so complain to them if you still believe after contacting EDF that they are billing you wrongly.

Hope this helps and if you need any further info just let me know.

    Cheers,

    Electricity bill

    Help Please...

Hi, I moved into a small one bedroomed flat in April 2007. My landlord explained that the heating was electric economy 10. The previous tenant who worked for EDF had changed the electric supplier from Scottish & Southern to EDF but had done a bunk and not paid outstanding bills. Anyway, my landlord stated that he wanted to change supplier back to S&S and promptly sent them a letter stating current meter readings while instructing me to phone and register, I did this a couple of weeks later. Since then and until I moved out of the property in August 08, I never received a bill. I should have chased but did not mind building up the debt knowing full well that I would need to pay on my leaving. On leaving, I phoned S&S who confirm that they had meter readings supplied by my landlord but they could not bill me as they were not the supplier. Giving this information I went back to EDF who have confirmed that by the readings supplied, my bill is £1400 which seems very excessive for 18months?, although they have not sent bill yet. Anyway, I had 1no tv, fridge, cooker, washer dryer & shower, the heating was on timer and I was careful to change timer when not at home. Additionally, i was using the flat as a 2nd residence so was sometimes only there 4-5 days a week. My question is; 1) Do you think the bill is excessive? 2) Is it possible that I am inheriting the previous occupants electricity usage? Thanks
