I hope you can help, I am currently disputing my electric usage at my property; please see details;
No gas supply just electric.
My initial readings were given on September 5th 2005
Day = 72551
Night = 55532
From then onwards I received bills based on readings, & estimates.
When I gave my final reading on 11th August 2008 they were;
Day =90722
Night = 60923
Totalling for my residence over the 35months;
Day = 18,171 Kwh
Night = 5,391 Kwh
Grand total combined 23,562 kwh
final bill received in August 2008 to be £282.23 even though I have been paying £100 per month.
tracker meter fitted to monitor the readings, this was carried out for 4 weeks and apparently the meter is not faulty. An Engineer that fitted and monitored the meter said there was no possible way I could be using this amount of electric, stating that unless I had a ‘spa batch’ running 24 hours a day it’s not humanly possible with the appliances I have. He commented that a power surge or a digit slip can happen on the meter and this would not show as a fault.
From September 2005 through to August 2008 I inhabited the property 4 times per week, I can prove I travel with work and have to stay away from home
My property;
1 Bedroom flat, all electric
Appliances;
Kitchen,
1 kettle
1 fan oven & hob
1 small fridge freezer
1 microwave
1 toaster
Sitting Room,
1 TV
1 DVD player
1 Stereo
Bedroom,
1 plug in lamp
Bathroom,
1 electric shower
Hot water tank which is heated via twice a day timer, set at 4am for 2 hours, & 5pm for 2 hours. I have no storage heaters.
Heating,
2 Electric radiators, not hot air flow. Oil filled radiators both set on timers and used in Winter only. Usually similar times in morning 4am for 2 hours. Then at night 5pm until around 9pm. Both are set with thermostat temperature controlled so not on constantly.
When I first queried my bill I was informed by B Gas that a total electric of 23,562 kwh was extremely high and should have been around 16,300 total based on all the appliances I have listed above in a 1 bedroom flat, I also live alone.
BG have come back with a reply stating the average consumption is 12-15 units a day for a household (I lived alone, 4 days per week) they commented that my electric oil filled radiators could use as much as 36 units a day if left on for 6 hours over winter. therefore my winter usage could be between 35-50 units per day!!
is this correct? based on a 1 bed room flat, residing 4 days per week?
they state that 22 units per day, every day since I have lived there is normal for a household, but I don’t have a family or a large property.
please help, I don’t know what else to do and would like some real facts!
kind regards
