    Hi stu26,

Did you rent direct with the landlord or via a letting agent? If via a letting agent I suggest you contact them in the first instant as if they manage the property they should have noted the meter readings and may know the energy supplier. If direct with the landlord then contact them as they should know this information.

    Skint.

    stu26,

Yes it is worth making a note of the readings. Try and keep a regular log i.e. once a month.

With regards to the best product available to you it could be a number of suppliers as I assume you are a low user. If you enter your postcode on the comparison service and keep the supplier and tariff as those defaulted, you can then select 'low' user and see what product comes up cheapest.

Currently the cheapest product on the market is British Gas' Click Energy 4 very closely followed by Scottish & Southern's Price Fix 2008.

For higher users, the best product on the market is again British Gas' Click Energy or Npower's SOL 8 depending on region of the UK.

    I hope this helps.

    Re: Electric confusion!!!

hi depending where u live i would not know who the best supplier is but the advise i can give u is as soon as u move into your house look at the electric meter and jot down the number across the meter and the same with the gas. Then when u find out who your supplier is tell them what the readings were as they bill you from this and also pay these by direct debit as u usually get discount by doing it this way.

    Electric confusion!!!

Hi, I've just moved into my first house as a private tenant, and am completely boggled by all the information i get when i look at energy supplier sites, i live in a small 2 bed house, with night storage heaters, and only use one of these as i have an open fire in the living room.  I work around 12hrs a  day from 9.30am until around 10.30ish, everything is always turned off when not in use (apart from my computer) and i only really use lamps in the evening as appose to ceiling lights.  I'm not completely sure which company the landlord deals with, and have no clue if this is a quartly or monthly thing, and the landlord has given me no indication as to how much it'll be per bill.  Hows do you find this information out, and which energy supplier/tariff do you think would be best for me?

    Thanks in advance
