    electric boiler cover?

    Hi,

I posted this in December but no one was able to help then so i'm trying again.

I live in a 4 year old new build flat, which only has electricity and no gas. I have a water heater/boiler and I'd like to get breakdown/servicing cover or insurance but I can't seem to find anything suitable as everything is either for gas boilers or for electric central heating systems. I have electric heaters on the walls, but in 2 years of being there i have never used the heating as the insulation is so good, so i'm not really too worried about cover that includes this (although I don't mind one that does include it).

I've looked at loads of companies and websites but none of their policies seem right for what i need, and my electricity company is Ecotricity and they don't do boiler cover.

Can anyone suggest where I can find something suitable?

    Thanks

Is it an emersion heater? If so, the element and thermostat cost less than £20 and fitting takes a couple of hours. There's not a lot else that is likely to go wrong. You are better looking for the number of a good plumber rather than insurance cover, in my view.

    Re: electric boiler cover?

Hi. Thanks for your quick reply. There isn't a thermostat on it, just an off/off switch - i've had the element replaced two or three times and it definitely hasn't cost £20! I've had lots of different quotes and its alwasy cost me around £170 for parts and labour each time.

We've been in dispute with the housing association/contractor for 2 years saying that the boilers aren't fit for purpose, but we haven't got anywhere - i'd like the peace of mind that annual cover offers.

£20 is for an element that wont corrode as fast as cheaper ones. If your water is corroding the elements quite fast, you should get one of these more expensive elements. Fitting an element requires a large spanner, perhaps some hose to drain the tank if there isn't a draining tap (normal taps wont take all the water out) and a couple of hours.
