    Electoral Register

    Hi guys,

Not sure if this is in the right section, so apologies if it isn't.

I applied for a credit card with Virgin yesterday - unfortunately they turned me down as I wasn't on the electoral register between Oct 2005, and March 09 - I have no idea how this could be as I haven't moved, and have voted during this period!

Is there any way that I can find out if this is true (I have copies of my credit profile - Equifax & Experion), and if it is the case - would the council retroactively put the information on my file?

Seem very unfair to get punished for something so trivial

    Thanks for your help

    Pete

    Re: Electoral Register

You cannot vote unless you are on the electoral role, which is why it's called the electoral role.

    Re: Electoral Register

Thank-you for the sarcastic undertones, much appreciated.

If you read my post, you will notice that I informed that I did vote during this period, but have been informed that I wasn't on the electoral role by Virgin - hence me asking if I could find out if the info they gave was true

If you don't have anything constructive to post, please kindly do one

    Many thanks

    Pete

    Re: Electoral Register

Why are you posting this complaint to the forum, when you should be taking it up directly with Virgin. Nobody here will be able to tell you how you managed to vote without being on the electoral register. It's very easy to find out, from your local council, if you are on the electoral role. Unfortunately, nobody here can do that for you.

    Constructive enough?

    Re: Electoral Register

I have been in touch with the council thanks very much.

The idea of a forum such as this is to seek advice, in the hope that somebody can offer some form of guidance. On a few occasions I have gathered information from this site, that has helped to resolve particular challenges I have faced.

Please don't cast aspersions on the other forum members, it highlights a lack of respect and emotional intelligence.

I think its perfectly clear what you are saying. You were on the Electoral Roll and you were sent your voting card but possibly this is not reflected on one or more of the Credit Reference Agencies.

There are a few basic steps to take. First find out which CRA Virgin (or MBNA) employed. Next, obtain your credit report (not sure what you mean by credit profile). The £2 statutory report is more than adequate. Go through the report with a fine tooth comb looking for errors (and omissions). If you don't agree with the Electoral Roll data then it's a case of discussing the accuracy with the CRA and/or the Electoral Registration people. If you phone Electoral Registration they will probably look at previous years registers which are also probably available in your local library. Find out from the CRA what process they expect to be followed to remedy any errrors. Comply.

    Re: Electoral Register

There is not a single forum poster who can tell you whether you are on the electoral role! Virgin were apparently unable to find your name there (your words). So exactly how can anybody here answer your query?

This has nothing to do with respect and emotional intelligence (whatever that means!). My advice was to approach your Council. You say that you have done this. So what is your question?
