    Re: Ebay and Paypal

regarding that paypal withdrawal limit...it is probably because you have the basic paypal account....i think they call it 'personal'. to remove the withdrawal limit, you have to upgrade. it doesnt cost you anything.....just a glorified way of verifying your bank account.

when i did it, they withdrew two small amounts of less than £1 from my bank account...i then had to look at my bank statement to find exactly what these amounts were, log into paypal and tell them what these amounts were and presto. they credit the deducted amounts to paypal.

have a gander through paypal's FAQs.....there should be a posting there about it.

If I sell an item of larger value on ebay, I put it in the listing that I will only accept a 10% holding deposit through Paypal, and the balance either cash on collection, or funds like cheque / bank transfer, must be cleared before goods will be released. I do it that way mainly to avoid Paypal's extortionate charges, and my own safety.

Hi CMK, what a knowledgeable person you are!  Just saw this post.  I didn't realise you could do this.  I have sold several items of large value on e-bay and really resented paying Paypal's ridiculous charges.   Needless to say, I will be doing it your way in future.

    Thanks for the tip.

    Regards

P.s. Just out of interest, how are you so knowledgeable?

    Re: Ebay and Paypal

paypal is one of the slowest, unsafe, unreliable payment handling service ever. Id rather let someone put money directly into my bank account thus enabling me instant access to it and the full security that it is in my own account.

    Re: Ebay and Paypal

I knew it would take longer to get to my current account than normal but am astonished at how long it is taking to get this e-cheque to the paypal account. I didn't know about the withdrawal limit as i've never sold much on Ebay and nothing to this value of this item, so have never come up against it.

I have begun proceedings to increase this limit but it is nowhere near a swift process, I'm just waiting for my letter back from the Pope. If you are intending on selling an item over the value of £500 and expect to be able to access the cash once you have sold it, ensure you have addressed the paypal withdrawal limit well in advance.

I'll keep you posted on how long it takes....

    Re: Ebay and Paypal

Sorry jj --- Until it's cleared you have no chance of getting at it, once cleared you can transfer it to your bank account and even that takes longer than the norm, think it's seven working days roughly ?

I did not even know the max you could transfer out was £500 / month ?

    Re: Ebay and Paypal

Yeah, I have no intention of releasing the goods without cleared funds. I didn't even know these E-cheques existed, was expecting usual paypal instant payment. What about this limit on how much of my cash I can and can't access from the Paypal account? Any ideas how to get access to this dough? Can't stand the thought of more than a grand of my money being held in someone elses account. maybe they're investing it in the interim?

    Re: Ebay and Paypal

jj --- I had that once, do not release the goods until you receive a notice from Paypal that says it's cleared and shows in your account, they have been known to "bounce" leaving you with no goods and no money, the only one I ever had took over two weeks to clear this obstacle.

For some reason I think people use them when they have not got a credit card, other than that I don't have any knowledge on this weird type of transaction.

    Ebay and Paypal

    Hello All,

Anyone any suggestions or ideas about this little situation?

I've just sold an item on Ebay and the lucky winner of the auction has duly sent payment via E-Cheque to our paypal account. This was sent last Wednesday and we have been informed that this will not be clear until Friday 29th June. I would have expected payment to be clear with us sooner than this and was wondering why he would want to use this method of payment as he has only delayed the despatch of his newly acquired goods.

Further, we cannot access the money (over a bag) because of a limit set by Paypal of £500 per month max withdrawal. We are trying to raise this limit but to fair, we are moving about as quick as a 1.0 automatic Daihatsu Charade. It looks like it's going to be September before I see the cash for the item I sold in June and I'm, quite frankly, fuming.

Anyone come across this before? Any quick fixes anyone knows about?

    Cheers

    JJ
