Yes for far too long interest rates have been a rip off. I suffered from Harold Wilsons labour government with 25% inflation. ( the press must have a magic mrker that delets that one). Conservatives with the stupidity of the euro and europe at any cost 14%. Now we have another Labour Group who are just plain daft or is it us ?

Once again this is penalising prudent savers and encouraging proligant borrowers.

Please ask Mr. Brown if that is what he intends to continue to do as well as refusing to ask the country's opinion by calling a general election.

He reminds me of Mr. Mugabe in Zimbabwe.

    NO

Cutting interest rates is not helping me I have a fixed mortgage rate and now my savings are making little or no money at all.

I am not sure how cutting interest rates is supposed to help anyone????

NO--I have lost money because of interest rate dropping and since I have been retired 15 years it does makes me wonder how this government ever came to power, also now spending our money having their meetings in other Cities, when there is no need, just two days at the Tax payers MONEY.

Re Mr Brown, if he called an election he would be out. He has done nothing for me but cause me heartache and he wasnt even elected in the first place.

Who ever heard of a prime minister getting into power without being elected.

I think he should call an election and go back to Scotland.

He has given Scotland more than the English....

I have watched my interest go down and down like you. My parents use there interest to top up there income and they are struggling. They are 80 now and have saved all there lives and they will get so little money from there savings now it will mean they have to use there capital, how long is that going to last with this governement......

It doesn't. . . unless you are hoping to secure a mortgage and buy a property instead of renting.

Re: Do you welcome today’s interest rate cut?

Yes...so long as the Banks are prepared to start lending again both to business and personal customers. It has become obvious that the residential housing market is a key ingredient of the UK economy with all the associated requirements when people move home.

This was seriously predicted in mid-2007 and yet so little has been done.

Perhaps the Banks and Mortgage providers will at long last help to stimulate the economy instead of just making money for a small number of shreholders.

Re: Do you welcome today’s interest rate cut?

No, I certainly do not. Borrowing money is a privilege that should be paid for. The lender is allowing the use of their money and is taking a risk in lending it. Todays climate seems to be that the risk to any savings is far greater than ever, yet the rewards (interest earned) are at their lowest. Maybe Mr Brown will lend me his personal money at a rate of 1.5%.

Re: Do you welcome today’s interest rate cut?

    disappearing thanks to this goverment,

Re: Do you welcome today’s interest rate cut?

Not really as it does not benefit many homeowners. I can.t see it has been passed on to variable or tracker customers very well either??

We were all advised to take lengthy fixed mortgages just prior to this crash. Having been a victim of 16% interest rates during the 1980s and similar in 1990s we jumped at the chance. I am sure a lot of others have done the same.

Now to try and save for retirement is a joke! Looks like the past 30 years has not favourved me or my generation at all!

Re: Do you welcome today’s interest rate cut?

No. I have worked hard all my life, and put aside money for a rainy day. As I now have a son and only a part-time job, I wanted to rely a little on my savings, but I might as well just put it under the mattress, rather than a savings account.!
