Re: Do not understand my Gas statement

Shelps, you are either paying back a large amount due to inaccurate estimated readings in the past, or BG are taking you for a ride!!

As Jalexa says, you need to supply us with more info. as much as possible, to allow the "forumees" to help you.

Re: Do not understand my Gas statement

I'm not sure but on the back of your statement should be a calculation explaining how they convert your reading to the kWh that are used to charge you.

a metric meter will be something like:

    Units x Calorific Value (39.6225) x Volume Correction (1.02264)

Divided by conversion to kWh (3.6) = kWh used.

You will also have a metric conversion factor as you have an imperial meter.

    .

I recently used 14 metric units (over 1 month)

    This converted:

    14 x Calorific Value (39.6225) x Volume Correction (1.02264) divided by 3.6 = 157.57

    This was charged at 6.86p = £10.81

This was a low usage month compared to average.

Compared to my usage (157.57 kWh) over 31 days you would have used 447.3 kWh.

You have used 3 times this amount.

I have my heating turned off and the hot water is on demand (with a new boiler < 2 years old).

    Gas cooker and electric oven.

    HTH

    Sparky.

    Shelps:

    sorry but new to this

the reading on my bill is 47 imperial units used over 88 days (actual)

Gas untis converted = 1492.53 kWh used over 88 days

Better, but are the readings actual readings or estimated readings? When was the last actual reading? What tariff are you on? What is the cost per kWhr?

    Shelps:

The statements they send are so cryptic.

I agree. Only 14% of the population can understand them apparently. But not half as cryptic as your post.

You need to start thinking (and posting) meter readings and account balance instead of monthly payments which in isolation are meaningless.

Do not understand my Gas statement

I am currently with British Gas and use gas roughly (1 hour a day) for hot water and cooking (1 hour a day) yet my direct debit is £93.00 per month? I am sure I am doing something wrong here, but can anyone advise me what I should be doing, as it cant be right and I am dreading the winter. The statements they send are so cryptic.

    Thanks
