    Re: direct debit query??

    Hello again hondo

If it is the other scenario I hope this is helpful. With the AA when I joined they said that renewal was automatic BUT we let you know something like up to two months before the end of the year that renewal is coming up. If you don't want renewal just let us know - in fact I cancelled during a secure phone call with them AND the CS promised that I would be wiped from the screen/records and I was. I think you'll find that cancelling the DD may not be what they call cancellation.

    All the best.

    Re: direct debit query??

When I first started reading this post, I assumed it ws going to complain that the company was insisting you pay the years premium, even though you had cancelled it after a few months - as you made the claim, they are well within their rights to do so.

However, if they are now trying to claim payments that are for a subsequent year, then that is wrong, and they shouldnt do it - speak to your bank, as the DD guarantee means they should pull the money back.

    Hello hondo

Your initial thread could be read that your son had a normal one year policy that was being paid in twelve monthly instalments and after less than a year you unilaterally cancelled it. Is that the case?

    (1) your son should have replied to letter from ins. company. (2) when you cancel a dd you must inform   both the company AND your bank. once you cancel a dd with your bank the company cannot access your bank. different rules apply for standing orders.

    direct debit query??

my wife paid our sons motorbike insurance through her account on DD. his bike was stolen in feb and as he wasnt covered for theft (because his bike was an import they wouldnt cover more than third party). we stopped the dd...advised the company and that was that. the company started to debit money again on 22 may and then again on the 5 june. it appears they wrote to our son who didnt reply to them and becasue he didnt say no they started a policy again for him and starteddebiting my wifes account after a period in excessof 3 months. This is even though we cancelled our DD with them. My Wife banks with Halifax and a customer service lady advised that this is quite normal?!?. they can debit my wifes acount whenever they like if we provided them the information once?...I cant believe this has anyone any advice??

    Thanks in advance...

    Dave
