    Default from Vodafone

    Hi All,

I have a problem with Vodafone that has been going on for quite some time!! In 2006 I bought a laptop and a 3G datacard came with the laptop for free. The card was on PAYG and there was no contract, I simply paid for the data I had used at the end of each month. Never signed anything and was advertised as "no contract and no ties'. I had this setup on DDebit and always paid. About 5 months in I asked them if there were any add-ons I could have (buy 250mb up front etc) and they advised me that I could, I asked if there was any change to agreement etc and they said no, no credit check, no contract etc... About 3 months on I stopped using the card so I cancelled the DDebit as I was no longer using my PAYG data card. I received letters asking for money to which I called up to say this is PAYG so please stop billing me.

3 Months later I go for an overdraft for my business and my bank manager informs me of a default on my credit file... News to me! I check it out and Vodafon logged a default against me for £147. I called them for an explanation of what was going on, they said I was on a 12 month contract and that I defaulted, obviously this is untrue! I then got a debt collection letter, I wrote to the agency and asked them for proof of the debt and never heard back... I then checked my file again and the default was still there, called Vodafone demanding it was taken off, was passed from the usual idiot to the next and was told that if I paid it they would put it as settled. I would not pay it because A) I don't owe it and B) It would remain on my credit file.

At this point I spoke to a solicitor who wrote to Vodafone, Voda wouldn't haven't replied... I am still stuck with a default, I have even tried through Experian but Voda evidently replied to them stating that the default was valid so I seem a bit stuck!?

Any advice would be much appreciated. This is the only negative mark on my credit file, I can get around it on larger applications through my bank manager as I have a relationship with the bank but not on credit cards etc....

    Cheers all!
