    Re: Declairing convictions

Any driving offence which results in a fine must be declared for 5 years (unless the insurance company only ask for a short period of history, but 5 is the norm)

After 5 years they have no right to the infomation, and if they ask for it you can refuse to provide that infomation.

This is the case for all offences (speeding & drink driving).

However, in the case of drink driving you cant have the endorsement removed from your licence for 11 years (but insurance companies cant act on it after 5 years as per the above).

p.s. the 5 years is counted from the conviction date, not the date the offence was committed.

p.p.s. it is 7 years and 10 years respectively if a prison sentence of up to 6 months or up to 30 months respectively is involved.

p.p.p.s. if the sentence is over 30 months, then you must always declare it if asked.

Don't whatever you do fail to declare the drink driving offence, it could invalidate your insurance completely.

Your speeding offence is valid for 3 years, but stays on your licence for 4 years.  The drink driving offence will stay on your licence for 10/11 years.  I think that if you commit another drink driving offence within 5 years you'll receive an automatic ban of three years.  Just check on the DVLA site though, it's a few years since I worked in the court service.

    Declairing convictions

Hi peeps, i have a couple of questions that i hope you will be able to easily help me off the top of ur heads!

I'm 23 now, i got done for drink driving when i was 19 and also a speeding conviction that year. I now have 3 years no claims.

Am i right in thinking that i don't legally have to declaire i was done with drink driving after three years? And same with the speeding?

Or do i have to send my licence off to the DVLA and pay a fortune to get a new bit of paper?

     Many thanks guys!
