    Re: Decisions, Decisions ........

    Yep, that's me alright.

Seriously, I don't decry the reasons that you have for wanting something new, it is just reading about people who change for the sake of it that hacks me off.

This year has seen the B-Liar government replaced by a Brown government, which says to me that we have gone from the Lips to the ar5e with all that that entails. The lies of the so-called Green brigade have now managed to ensure that legal, law-abiding motorists are paying dearly for the thousands of illegal petrol-heads who blight our roads and cause millions of pounds of damage every year which joe-law-abiding-citizen can never get back. So, why do I get hacked off with the question? Because there are some of us who cannot afford the luxury of changing vehicles on a whim, and who are saddled with every-rising bills based upon lies and deceit from the "expert climate change authorities". Climate change is NOT affected by cars or by 'gas guzzlers' and if the UK was to drop off the face of the Earth tomorrow it wouldn't even register on the climate change scale.

I would love a BMW X5 with all the whistles and bells, but I cannot afford to run it and here in the south west it would be ruined within a week by some Stella-fuelled tourist on a so-called joy ride (aka: car theft).

I genuinely hope you enjoy your new toy when you get it - I wuld seriously think about staying with the Subaru. They are still good value for money and if looked after, i believe they will still be turning heads a few years down the line.

Off my podium now to take a little swim around my pond!

    SHARK!

    Hi Landshark

Thanks for your opinion.  I'm not a tree hugger or green moron either but you know what - my car is 7 years old now and its making some worrying noises and I (like a lot of people in this country) can afford to change may car when I want to.  I don't have 2 cars - I just want one that gets me around and one that I'm happy with from an investment point of view.  I feel nauseous too but that's probably down to the amount of beers I've had tonight.

    Landshark:

Why change at all - oh yes - it LOOKS a bit tired ...

You all make me slightly nauseaus. I am not a tree-hugging, green moron, but I am against change without need. I have two vehicles, both of which are over six years old and like anything in life they reflect the care taken over them. I have a 4 x 4 because I live in the countryside and NEED a 4 x 4 in the winter to simply get out and about. I have another car which I use for business when appropriate. I will not replace either until either they become economically unviable to run or some illegal ar5ehole in an uninsured berk-mobile (probably stolen) smashes into me.

Keep your Subaru, look after it and keep your money so you save 100%.

Not quite sure what that was all about?

    Mortgage Consultant:

    RGB,

How cynical - I have had it since before I was a Mortgage Consultant!!! Agree with the others, but Receptionist with a Porsche, where are you from?

Thought housewife was 4x4 - you know the one where you go down a country lane and they expect you to go on the mud to pass!!

    Regards,

    Adey

I was referring to those unemployed 'Housewives' that hunt down men with money, marry them, sponge off the husband who works for his money... to whom he then goes out and buys a porsche for. You'll often find the bleeders get bored sitting at home all day, and get a part time job as a receptionist somewhere. Naturally, they'll take the car. I don't think the 'Housewife' or 'Househusband' should be applicable if there are no children... just 'Unemployed'.

Yes, most housewives have 4x4 if they have kids.

I used to know 7 mortgage consultants. 5 of them had BMW's, 1 had a dreaded Mercedes and the other had an Audi TT (his Mrs. was a hairdresser, and he'd just come from Estate Agency).

    jjnaughalty:RGB must live in Moneyville....

LOL, yes, I think I'd quite like to live there too!

I do know of one receptionist who used to drive a Porche but she was having an affair with the Chairman of the company at the time and the Porche was a company car.

In my part of the country receptionists earn a pittance.

You can choose to listen to my advise or ignore me as im a 'girl' I know what men are like when taking advise about cars. As you can see genrally german cars get my rating. there so well built.

Suzie - You know what men are like taking advice about 'anything!!!'  Especially when it's suggeted by 'the wife.'  LOL

I agree with you, the German cars tend to be solid, reliable and look good too.  There are more women on the roads now than ever before.  Women now have a big say in the purchasing of cars.  TV adverts for cars now target women (so do insurance ads, Sheila's wheels etc).  So womens' views and decisions count for a lot in the motoring industry today.

I drive a Mercedes SL500 convertible.  I've had it a few years now.  It's my baby.  Hard top in Winter and soft top or no top (the car that is, LOL), in the Summer.  Not practical at all for shopping or hols etc. so you do need a second car but boy do I love it.  Fuel consumption is absolutely hopeless, there have been times when I've been convinced that I had a leak in the fuel tank as the needle was going down so quickly!!!  Never going to sell it though, I'm too attached.  I'm going to run it 'til it dies and then hope the husband says I can buy a new one.  :o)

RGB - I don't know any receptionists or housewives with a Porche.  How DO you work that one out?????

    Re: Decisions, Decisions ........

I would recommend a BMW 325Ci MSport - I bought one 3 months ago, and it is awesome - originally cost £32k, mine is less than 2 years old with 6k on the clock, got it for £17.5k private. The car is a dream to drive, returns on average 32mpg, and has enough power to get you out of trouble!! Mine has everything on it - Leather, Air con, Cruise Control, Electric Front Seats, Bluetooth and all the normal toys.

    Regards,

    Adey

    Re: Decisions, Decisions ........

I think a BMW is a good option. perhaps not the 1 series as there not particularly the best bmw ever made. It all depends how much money you have floating about. I'd go for the BMW 3 series. Cant fault them perhaps go for an e46 maybe the 325. The feul consumption isnt that bad either, BMW's are built to last we had a 5 series go up to 210,000 miles before it died and it was only the cooling system that went. you know your getting a good car. Ive had a 320 for a year and a bit and there just perfect to drive even at 156,000 miles it still feels on the ball and tight round corners. If you dont want to get bored I suggest something rear wheel drive or four wheel drive.. as front wheel drive just isnt all its cracked up to be and under steer isnt fun. Everyone knows that a bit of oversteer well controlled is! They just feel so different to drive. Maybe even go for a 5 series there a bit big but they are more of the luxery saloon witht the added speed. I know a lot of people who own BMW's and I've never know one to go wrong at all just as long as its regularly serviced, My car though was old when I brought it iv only serviced it once but its still going perfectly. Most peoplewould agree that german cars such as Audi or merc, VW they are so well built. If you dont want a BMW perhaps go for the Audi S3 or S4 the S3 is the top spec a3 you can get its only a 1.8 engine which kicks out 225bhp its quattro which is 4 wheel drive. Or even go for the VW golf r32 the feul consumption probably wont be amazing as its a 3.2 litre engine in a golf this is rear wheel drive and there isnt much around of this kind thats much faster. I heard that ford were making a 5 litre rear wheel drive focus. Now that wont be very 'economical' but would be fun I wouldnt really consider that a ford anymore to be honest.

You can choose to listen to my advise or ignore me as im a 'girl' I know what men are like when taking advise about cars. As you can see genrally german cars get my rating. there so well built. But dont go for the 1 series.

    Re: Decisions, Decisions ........

Wildcard option - Alfa Romeo 156 2.4 JTD. Looks class, will 0-60 in 9.1s (not Impreza standard I know, but hardly slow), top end 127mph (come on, how fast do you really wanna go?!), handles beautifully, but leave your lead boots at home and you can get 45mpg. Plus, everyone will go "Oooh, it's an Alfa. Posh"
