Hi Benjamin T and everyone else,
I am in exactly the same position as you --- bankrupted, now discharged, basic Nationwide account for several years now.
Treated like a leper by the banking community though my bankruptcy was caused by that of a much larger supplier impacting so much on my small business that I had no options but to file.
Years later, now several since the discharge, I asked for a debit card and was told --- no. The reason, because they only supply debit cards with a cheque book so the debit card also becomes a cheque quarantee card, therefore they are theoretically giving credit if you use the card.
How unbeleivably stupid and shortsighted is that!!!???
Have Nationwide not noticed that the use of cheques has reduced by some 75% in recent years.
Can anyone tell me which bank will allow a current account from which direct debits and standing orders can be processed which also supplies a basic debit card so that I can purchase things without cash, on-line and at points of sale.
It's not too much to ask for, is it?
