Here is my advice, an I work for currys, wait till your laptop comes back, read the letter, then go into your nearest store and ask them to help, it maybe that the tech guys got it wrong or that your policy doesn't cover accidental damage either way the can find out. An they can then send it off for repair its its possible. If Currys can't repair it then you should recieve vouchers for an exquivilant spec laptop after 5 days of the decision being reached.

Just in case you haven't already, you should take a backup of the data on your laptop.

You should do this regularily anyway, and certainly before sending it off.

You should be able to do this by placing the harddrive in an external case.

Somewhere like PC world should be able to help with this.

Obviously you will have to decide on the cost benefit of this.

For regular backups you can purchase a 250gb USB drive fairly cheaply. PC world had one in the sale over the weekend, but I'm not sure if it is still reduced.

    Good Luck.

    Sparky.

Wait to see what their letter says. It might say that repair was uneconomic and advise you what the process is for obtaining a replacement. It might be that the Insurance company deals with repair issues and then reverts to Currys to sort out a replacement.

If when you get the letter, it advises that the will not replace, have a careful read of your agreement and then make a complaint to currys. If they are breaching the contract terms, go to the small claims court as advised.

Try advising them that if they don't honour the policy then you will resort to the Small Claims Court.

Give them a deadline to meet. If they fail get an estimate for the cost of the repairs and advise then that you will see kto recover these costs from them.

The Small Claims procedure is very easy and can even be completed on line

    Best of luck

    Currys Whatever Happens Laptop Insurance

I bought my Advent laptop from curry's roughly two years ago and at the same time thought it prudent to take up the insurance offer they offered me as it seemed pretty good and if trusting the sales assistant, it covered everything that could possibly happen bar theft. Over this time, lugging my laptop back and forth from university it has accumulated some damage to the body of the laptop, although I think this is a matter of poor design rather than my heavy handedness. Anyway I thought that this is only to be expected having had the laptop for quite some time.

Skip forward to last month and I carelessly although accidently knocked over a glass of cordial onto my laptop. It stopped working and I promptly rang the insurance line and arranged a pick up. It has been 19 days now ( 2 days away from their replacement after 21 days deadline) so this morning I rang them for an update only to be told that the laptop had been rejected repair by the insurance company and I was being sent back an unrepaired laptop with a letter on how to take my claim further if I so wished. I am very confused about this as it says in the policy if there is a spilled drink they will repair it. The only thing I could think of was if they saw the light damage to the casing and thought that this was what I was complaining about (I wasnt the laptop was working fine even if it did look a little tatty) and decided to reject it.

Can anyone shed any light on this? Even if the repair is rejected and it is gone for more than 21 days will their replacement still stand? It really is rather inconvenient, this is the first claim I have made on my insurance after 2 years of paying only to be let down.

Thanks in advance for your time in reading this.
