    credit report

    hi

i was wondering can anyone help me.

i have pretty good credit which has taken me a while to build up but four years i defaulted on a catalogue which came up to £227 i left it go for two years then i did pay it off in full. I am recently coming to the end of my fixed rate mortgage and just checked my credit report and the catalogue have just put that on there and it is the only default on there. Are they allowed to do this after two years even though i paid the outstanding balance. Is there any way i can get rid of it?

    cheers for any advice

    Re: credit report

Hi -- I don't think a two year old default that now shows as settled would affect your mortgage application, however the mortgage brokers will probably correct me if I am wrong. !

Creditors are allowed to place defaults in this manner, the only way to get it removed off your file before it naturally expires after six years, is to write to the creditor asking their written permission to have the default removed early by mutual agreement as this is now settled....then forward this letter of agreement onto the relevant credit reference agency(s) for removal from your record.
