Re: credit history ruined by bank admin error?

I doubt very much if your credit history would be ruined simply by the fact that your card was sent to the wrong address and you went £23 over your (agreed?) limit the once. If that were the case 15-20 million current account/cardholders would be in the same boat.

With regard to the card being sent to the wrong address. If part of the security check is to ask for your a current address, you are on fairly secure grounds to make an official complaint and, at the very least, have a refund of all charges connected with the incident. If you intend to make a complaint to, say, the Financial Ombudsman Service, you are entitled to ask for copies of all information held about you.

I have to say that if you asked for a new card and it was sent to your old address, you should have realised within a couple of weeks that it hadn't arrived and called your card company to find out why.

Do not be fobbed off. Be tenacious.

    1) They asked you details of your new address in a security quiz.

    2) They don't record all phone calls.

That'll do me for starters. Presumably you said... You record telephone conversations... and you got a NON company answer of... we don't record all calls. YOU WANT TO KNOW if they have recorded your call. Now I think you are legally entitled to have a copy of the information if they recorded the call. My suggestion is you find out. Subject to a definitive answer here make an appointment at the CAB for a free half hour with a solicitor.

EVEN if you are not legally allowed a copy of the call go for their throat smoothly and politely and almost apologetically and if you are a good customer SUBTLY work into conversation that you are SADDENED by their attitude etc and this is reducing your confidence in them, don't feel you could recommend them to friends and acquaintances as things stand etc... Hope this is a helpful start.

If you win and all is put right you want compensation etc... and you could mention that you feel obliged to put your case on an influential forum which attracts media attention etc...

credit history ruined by bank admin error?

    Hi All,

Hope someone has a good idea today! My house was broken into and I cancelled my credit card with my bank for security reasons. Incidentally I have several accounts with the bank including current, savings, credit cards as well as all my wifes bank and credit accounts.

The replacement credit card was sent to my previous address even though I know I changed my address details when I originally moved to my current address!  Also I had to go through security when I phoned to cancel my cards and I was already at  my current address and gave them these details but they still sent th card to the wrong address!

I have no evidence though that I changed these details when I moved as it was done over the phone. My word against theirs and they say the phone calls are not recorded all the time..

This new card (at the old address) in the meantime has had annual credit card insurance charges applied to it and the statements have been sent to my old address, I was not aware of these charges as obviously I didnt physically use the cards (which I didnt even have and though had just not been reissued) and in the meantime the account went into arrears and now my credit history has been ruined for a mere 23 quid! Any ideas how to fight this as I can't even get a small loan at a decent rate !

    Help!
