    Credit cards and mortgage

    Hiya,

I am looking for advice on the following. My wifes and my credit cards have got to a stage when we need to start looking at transferring the balance (approx £10k total) to a balance transfer card in order to cut down on the interest payments with the intention of keeping the current cards paid off and moving the balance transfer money again once the period of 0% interest has expired. Can you recommend the best card(s) for this.

Also, our mortgage fixed rate term is due to come to completion at the end of the year, although I may take a months holiday from it to help our current situation. Our Loan to Value is approx 80% currently. Am I better to look at getting a new mortgage fixed rate / tracker as soon as possible, or to sit on the SVR for a few months (currently with C&G).

    Thanks,

    Swilly

    Re: Credit cards and mortgage

If you are heading for financial strains, you should sort out a long term mortgage as soon as possible. Missing payments and juggling credit card debt may well affect which mortgages (and which credit cards) are available to you.

Your priorities should include a plan to pay off your credit card debts with your own money.
