    Credit card to use abroad?

Hi ive been looking at which card is best to use abroad. I have seen the one from the post office and nationwide come recommended on various sites. however ive seen the abbey zero card, which states no charges on cash withdrawls. Im only going to use the card for my holiday and have money to cover the bill its more for security that i wish to get one. Im not with all the jargon that goes with them so if anyone could help that would be great, thanks rob

Re: Credit card to use abroad?

It says no cash advance *fees*.

However, reading their offer more carefully:

"Cash advances: Introductory/Promotional rate N/A. Monthly rate 1.9137%. Annual rate 25.9%"

So no ATM withdrawal fee, but they charge 25.9% apr on cash advances.

NEVER use a credit card to withdraw cash from an ATM.

Nationwide Flex Account debit cards offer no currency exchange transaction fee and are therefore the best, or one of the best, ways to withdraw cash abroad.

Apply for Nationwide's credit card too. Just like their debit card it charges no foreign currency transaction fee on foreign purchases and offers 3 months interest-free credit, which is useful if you're travelling soon. The Post Office credit card doesn't charge foreign transaction fees either. Waiving this fee saves 2.75% on average.

My only complaint about Nationwide is that they don't (yet) participate in instantaneous inter-bank money transfers.

Another alternative would be to use, e.g., a Barclaycard, that currently offers 10 months' interest-free credit. You would pay the foreign currency transaction fee, but you could keep your cash earning interest in a high-yield savings account.

    Enjoy your holiday!
