    Credit Card % Balance Transfer

    Hi,

I am looking to open a new Virgin Credit Card with 15 months 0% on balance transfers. The problem is that my credit history isn't fantastic. Can I get around this by getting my mum to take out the credit card and add me as an additional card holder. Can I then transfer the balance on my high interest credit card to this account?

    Cheers,

    Colin

Re: Credit Card % Balance Transfer

You could but why add yourself as an additional cardholder, this will not improve your credit history and your Mum would still be the person responsible for repaying your balance.. as the account holder.

Why not just let your Mum apply if she's willing and transfer your balance straight onto her newly acquired Virgin card then pay her.?

Ensure that your existing card is not within the same group as Virgin, they will not always allow you to transfer amounts from within the same group. !

Re: Credit Card % Balance Transfer

So is she able to transfer a balance from a credit card not in her name? Thats why I was looking to add myself as an additional card as I was under the impression that an application for an additional card would not effect my credit score as the owner of the card is responsible for the balance. The credit card that I would be transfering the balance from would be a natwest gold credit card.

So is that the case, my mum can transfer a balance from my credit card without me having an attachment to the card?

I know that Egg card allows transfers in from another persons named card and think that Virgin / MBNA (same group) also allow it, best to check first though before she applies.
