Re: council tax on new houses

Oooh, you've hit a sore point there. I've got a house that has been extended, and I am just waiting to be rebanded, and it's going to cripple me.

I know that you can appeal against a banding, but, from what I understand, only rarely is an appeal successful.

Hopefully, someone else can point you in the right direction.

    council tax on new houses

we are looking at buying a brand new house, with the recent horrific house price increases it is priced at 225,000 most of which we will get from selling our old house. The problem is the council tax is band g a whopping 2150 per year. This is more than double as we are now in a band c. Surely this is not fair as people with houses built pre 1991 which have the same current value as this brand new house will be in a lower band and be paying a lot less. Is there anyway the councils will band the same as similar properties in the same area. As you know when you move things are tight anyway and we do not want to over stretch wouselves especially as rates are going up and the extra 100 per month could be the difference of me getting my ideal new house and not.
