From 1st Dec to 6th March I would expect Gas £ 245.00 for 9000 Kilo Watts. Electricity £134.00 for 1,302Kw watt units Gas daily useage on these figures work out at '94.7' kilo watts of gas daily for 95 days and Electriciy '13.7' units daily for 95days [Dec1st to March 6th] Your figures total gas £203.00 I feel is reasonable .Something is amiss though with your electriciy readings. £461 for 4,300 Kilo Watt units is about RIGHT regarding the 'unit kilo watt rate' but 4,300 would seem to me is what you COULD have consumed in ONE YEAR This figure needs checking out. Could estimated readings be playing some part as the kilo watt unit price seems okay.
ie . 4300 units costing £461 gives a unit rate average of 9.32 pencewhich is about right. To repeat I feel the figure of 4.300 units from Dec 1st 006 to March 6th 007 is suspect

I had this problem and contacted the supplier (EDF) who fitted a new meter to run alongside the ?faulty one. It was set for a month and then they read both and compared results. They were very fair and really seemd to want to sort out the problem. You could try Scottish power and see if they offer a similar solution.

could this be a faulty meter?

we have been in this 4 bed room new property since july2006. Our gas & electricity bill between july and november 2006 was 337£.
Now from 1/12/06 to 6/3/07 it has come upto 692£( gas 203£, electricity 461£ for 4,300 units!!).
we are just 2 of us living in this property, both work outside b/n 9-5 , this bill has come as a shock. Electric appliances i can think of are laptop, tele, microwave, washing machine, music system and usual lighting in th house (no dishwasher or electric heaters etc). In the last 2 months we were off on holiday for 2 weeks, this bill is actually only for 71 days. Our energy supplier is Scottish gas.
I can't think of anyother reason behind it.
can any one suggest to me as to what else could be wrong?
I have checked my electricity meter, think it runs quite fast. It runs even when all the appliances are switched off!!
