That's averaging about 13p per unit of electricity and 5p per unit of gas. You can probably save a little on those rates but your big saving will come with cutting down your electricity usage. £500 total per year is not that much for a house but you could be using more electricity than you need. Looking at meters will help you to find where the money goes but, in general, heating (water & rooms) costs more than lighting, TVs, computers, etc. and electricity costs more than gas to do the same thing.

Confused with tarrifs, need to find a cheaper tarriff

I am a complete noob when it comes to things like this and have stayed with british gas for the last 2 1/5 years for the sake of ease but they are now far too exspensive!

According to my previous history with british gas I have used since December 2010 to now -

    Electric - 2355.39 kWh costing - £315.81

    Gas - 3642.21 kWh costing - £180.59

I'm currently on their standard duel tarrif.

It's costing me a fortune and there has to be something cheaper out there?

I have tried comparison sites but I just don't get it, I don't know how to make sure I am getting a better deal. I would really appreciate if someone could help me find a cheaper tarriff.

Ou usage is due to 2 adults, 1 toddler (and we are due another baby in November) in a 2 bed maisonetee (south west). I really need to cut these costs.

    Help please?
